August 26......🇺🇸🇺🇸 Today on the calendar is Women's Equality Day because "it commemorates the 1920 ratification of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, that granted women the right to vote. Using organizing, civil disobedience, and intense lobbying, women suffragists worked to change societal views and challenge laws that denied them a voice in government."

The Department of War was renamed the Department of Defense in 1949, but there have been discussions and suggestions to revert to the name "Department of War".
***1789-1947: The U.S. military was organized under the Department of War.
***1947: The National Security Act reorganized the military, creating a new National Military Establishment (NME) that included the separate Departments of the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
***1949: The National Military Establishment was renamed the Department of Defense (DOD)
