Our Story
Top Box Foods is a not-for-profit organization with a simple purpose: to offer delicious, healthy, high-quality foods at affordable prices, particularly to people living in areas with limited access to nutritious eating options. By providing healthy, affordable food to families living in modern food deserts, Top Box eliminates their dependence on convenience stores and fast food restaurants as a primary source of food. In order to best serve our customers through our Makin’ Groceries Program, Top Box partners with local community centers and churches to identify families in need. Through a user-friendly registration system, Top Box customers are able to select from a wide variety of nutritious eating options. Our healthy offerings consist of the Family Box, the diabetic-friendly Small Family Box, the Grill Box, the Fruit Box, and the Vegetable Box. These products provide filling and nutritious meals at half the prices of retail grocery stores. Each month, pre-ordered boxes are delivered to and picked up from our partner organizations. Top Box accepts all forms of payment – including SNAP benefits (food stamps) – and gives 5% of sales revenue back to our partnering organizations. Top Box Foods – New Orleans uses a social business model, which is largely driven by a workforce comprised entirely of volunteers. By utilizing our low-cost, high-impact model Top Box Foods operates as a self-sustaining social business, allowing us to offer fresher, healthier food to more families each and every month.
