Louisiana Campaign for Equal Justice

Louisiana Campaign for Equal Justice The Louisiana Campaign for Equal Justice (LCEJ) is dedicated to fair funding for Louisiana’s public defenders.
(3)

LCEJ seeks to achieve a stable, reliable and adequate system of funding for public defense in Louisiana. Utilizing partnership, collaboration, research, media and other means, LCEJ pursues funding and resource parity for public defenders in the Louisiana criminal justice system. Until Louisiana’s public defenders are ensured funding and resource parity, the Constitutional rights of poor defendants

will remain at risk and taxpayers will continue to pay for the criminal justice system’s inefficiencies. LCEJ is funded through a grant by the Open Society Foundations to the Orleans Public Defenders Office. This grant enables the development of a long-term plan to reform funding for public defense. In its quest for funding reform, the campaign looks to partner with stakeholders, vested interests and citizens concerned with criminal justice reform, responsible use of taxpayer money, and the protection of Constitutional rights.
