The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will open the Bonnet Carré Spillway Friday after heavy rains caused the Mississippi River to rise six inches in 24 hours.

The historic flood control structure was expected to reopen Tuesday, the first time in its history that the spillway has opened twice in one year. The spillway could be opened as early as 1 p.m. Friday. Click link below for more details.

The Army Corps of Engineers is considering opening the Bonnet Carre Spillway for a second time this year, with the river again set to rise to 16.9 feet in New Orleans on May 11. It would be the first time the spillway was opened twice in the same calendar year since it was completed in 1931. Click below for full story.
