On November 15, 2025, the Louisiana Region of JASNA hosted a most enjoyable Regency Ball and a delicious buffet at the Richland Room in Metairie.
The Louisiane Vintage Dancers, based in Baton Rouge, entertained the assembly with lively music, dance demonstrations, and dance lessons. Many of our members and guests joined in the merrymaking.
A Regency Era inspired menu of sliced meats, tea sandwiches, vegetable ragout, desserts, including Rout Cakes, lemon & treacle tartlets, delighted the pallets and the garden inspired decor delighted the eyes.
Prizes were awarded for:
Best Dressed - Amanda Simpkins
Best Dancer - Samantha Kolber
The Lady that Traveled the Farthest - Joy Louis
A beautifully decorated cake, with Jane's profile and anniversary dates, was served in honor of Miss Austen's 250th birthday.

A Most Enlightening Lecture!
The day after the Louisiana Region Book Festival, the JASNA Louisiana Region was delighted to host Dr Christopher Rovee, Warren Penn Professor of English at LSU, for a lecture entitled "Turning Back Time in Persuasion."

Held at the Bluebonnet Library, the gathering drew 24 guests, all eager to hear new insightful details of our beloved Anne Elliot and dear Captain Wentworth aged in reverse after their 8 year separation. All in attendance agreed that this is Miss Austen's most reflective novel.

Our talented members, Susan Dixon and Verna Fletcher, provided a lovely afternoon tea-complete with delicate sweet confections & the finest conversation.

To add to the day's enjoyment, the Region held a drawing for a complimentary membership, much to everyone's delight.

It was, in every respect, an afternoon Miss Austen herself would have pronounced most genteel and pleasing.

A Very Delightful Day Indeed!

The JASNA Louisiana Region was in fine spirits at the Louisiana Book Festival in Baton Rouge, where sunshine, good cheer & Austen admiration abounded!

We announced our upcoming Regency Ball on November 15 and an enlightening talk by Professor Christopher Rovee of LSU the following day.

We welcomed many new kindred spirits to JASNA. Sheila Cork, our intrepid Regional Coordinator & John Cork provided an informative backdrop to the booth from which visitors learned much, tried on bonnets & tall hats, picked out flavored teas, chatted of Austen's brilliance & entered a drawing to win 3 complimentary memberships -quite the excitement!

This was our Region 's second year of participation in the Book Festival.

The volunteers were Verna Fletcher, Susan Dixon, Lorell Hornbrook & Sheila and John Cork. Jack Caldwell pulled one of the winners.
