I know this might be unpopular, but I don’t believe every woman over 55 needs to be lifting heavy weights if she hates every minute of it.
Yes, strength training matters.
Yes, building muscle after 50 matters.
Yes, longevity, bone health, metabolism, and healthy aging matter.
But so does joy.
One of the biggest mistakes I see women making in midlife fitness is forcing themselves into workouts they dread because they’ve been told it’s the only way to stay healthy after 50.
I disagree.
If lifting heavy weights makes you feel strong and empowered, keep going.
But if you love walking, Pilates, barre, yoga, swimming, hiking, dancing, or simply moving your body every day, that counts too.
The best workout for women over 50 isn’t the one social media says you should do.
It’s the one you’ll actually do consistently.
Because consistency beats intensity every time.
At 56, I’m less interested in punishment and more interested in building a body that feels strong, mobile, energized, capable, and healthy for the long haul.
Movement should enhance your life—not become another thing you dread.
Find a form of exercise you enjoy.
Do it often.
Stay consistent.
Build strength in a way that works for your season of life.
That’s how healthy aging happens.
✨ Move your body.
✨ Protect your muscle.
✨ Keep your joy.
