OperaCréole Opera and classical music in New Orleans and around the world have always included the contributions of persons of color.

The Creoles of New Orleans have made contributions to the music and culture of New Orleans. It is their participation in opera, as well as the music of Africa, Spain, and Haiti that contributed to the birth of jazz. This is true for many people of African descent around the world. We are dedicated to educating students, and sharing with the community the contributions of our people to this musical art form.

“Steppin’ Out” Social Media Blurb for Aug. 27

Poppy Tooker discusses the local restaurant scene and Alan Smason gives his overview of the New Orleans theatre scene.

Givonna Joseph, Co-Founder and Artistic Director of Opera Créole,
previews a special concert and theatrical performance at the historic St. James A.M. E. Church on Sept. 11.

Documentarian John Menszer talks about his upcoming talk and current exhibit concerning interviews with Holocaust Survivors who settled in New Orleans and formed the New Americans Social Club of New Orleans.

Steppin’ Out is produced and hosted by Peggy Scott Laborde.

Steppin' Out will be broadcast tonight THURSDAY, AUGUST 27 AT 7pm on WYES, and streamed on wyes.org/live and PBS apps.
The show will be repeated FRIDAY, AUG. 28 at Midnight.

After the program’s initial broadcast it will be available on WYES’ YouTube Channel.
