On August 25, we welcomed a group of NYU students to the Fourth World House in New York. We introduced them to ATD Fourth World and the “Multidimensional Aspects of Poverty” research project. And together we prepared the house for upcoming events! It was a morning full of meaningful encounters and conversations.

Housing is one of life's most basic necessities, but for more and more people, it has become out of reach.

Please join us on Wednesday, September 30th, 2 to 3pm EDT for the webinar, “Affordable for Who? Housing and Homelessness in the U.S.” as we discuss how housing has become a commodity in the US, government programs meant to ease access to housing, and the criminalization of homelessness.

🌱Thank you to the partners and members who participated and provided feedback to the Housing Paper team during their presentation of “Building Housing Solutions: Through a Collaborative Process” on August 18th in New York City. This paper emerged from a participatory process that began in 2023 and has continued to evolve since then. 🏘✊

This month at the Gamerco Story Garden, the Gallup team brought supplies for the kids to build and decorate birdhouses.

The project gave the kids a chance to get creative while creating cozy homes for birds as the weather gets colder. They added a little more color, creativity, and left their own mark to their community.

We love watching their creativity take flight! 🐦🎨

What can happen when the people closest to an issue are welcomed as co-creators?

What began with a MAP Training grew into a meaningful partnership between ATD Fourth World and The Aspen Institute—and eventually into the co-creation of a framework for working meaningfully alongside people with lived experience of poverty.

Rosetta and Maryann brought their knowledge, experience, and perspectives to the table alongside other community members and partners, helping shape the work from the start.

Because when lived experience is recognized as expertise, new possibilities for meaningful change emerge.

We’re proud of this collaboration, and excited for what comes next.

🧶✨An afternoon of community, conversations, and crafts in Brownsville, Brooklyn. Some children conversed and created a 7-strand friendship bracelet. The craft looked as interesting as it sounds, because it attracted nearby neighbors! We all enjoyed great moments! ✨🧶
