ATD Fourth World USA ATD Fourth World USA builds supportive communities to counter poverty.

All Together in Dignity (ATD) Fourth World Movement strives to eradicate poverty by working in partnership with people and communities living in poverty. The US branch of the International Movement ATD Fourth World, our projects focus on the sharing of knowledge among people of different backgrounds in an atmosphere of mutual respect and dignity. We then seek out and create forums where the voice

and experience of those in poverty can influence public opinion and policy. ATD Fourth World holds consultative status with the United Nations and its associated bodies.

✨🧶A few weeks ago, the Story Garden facilitation team introduced the “Ojo de Dios,” or “God’s Eye,” craft at the Family Shelter in Brownsville, Brooklyn. Although it was a bit challenging, the families supported each other by sharing suggestions and tips for completing it. It was wonderful to see them work together! 🧶✨

✨🌱On May 22nd, we had our first Spring Festival day in Brownsville, Brooklyn. It wouldn’t have been possible without the support of the Global Outreach program from Fordham University. We provided a variety of activities, including chalk painting, a collective mosaic, canvas painting, a life-size Snakes and Ladders game, and much more. "From intern to team member in New Mexico, Alycia‘s role went from participating to becoming a thinker, creator, and facilitator. She reflected, “How can I use [this opportunity] to show the knowledge that I have to offer? How can I show who I am, where I come from, how I grew up, and the cultural knowledge in my daily work?”

Today, my time in New York is discovering another ATD Fourth World team, learning how to carry myself in ATD Fourth World settings, and showing different sides of myself. Because of all of that I am learning about myself. I discovered, “Oh, I didn’t know I could do that! Oh, I didn’t know I could be this good.” I am in conversations that I wasn’t a part of before, voicing my opinion in a way I couldn’t, adding my jazz, my spice, and growing in different ways. I did those things – something to be proud of."

✨Recently, Marina and Alycia met with Julissy, a longtime ATD Fourth World activist, and her two daughters. They had a meaningful couple of hours catching up and planning future events together in and around Brooklyn, NY.
✨One of the essential ways ATD Fourth World operates is by meeting with families in a setting that is both close to them and comfortable for them. This approach helps build trust and establishes lasting connections, enabling us to support their personal projects and both short- and long-term goals. 🌱💟

We are excited to share with you our new “In the Know” webinar series.

This bi-monthly educational series will focus on the history of specific topics, such as housing, immigration, and subsidies, the policy and false narratives surrounding these issues, and ways people can advocate if they wish to.

Our very first webinar, “Voting: It’s Your Right, Not a Privilege,” will focus on the history of voting eligibility in the United States, the Civil Rights Movement, the SAVE Act, and gerrymandering and the recent Supreme Court ruling on Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act.

We are preparing for our Spring Festival in Brownsville, Brooklyn, on Friday, May 22, 2026. Some parents and children from the Story Garden helped us prepare two banners by cutting and threading the pieces together. We hope you can join us. We have several fun activities planned for the day!
