The LGBT Community Center needs some help loading furniture (chairs, tables, appliances, etc) into a uhaul and center cleaning help tomorrow from 2-4pm. We will be unloading at a storage unit while we focus on next steps and reopening.

Please join us in helping the center move out for the 2727 S Broad St location from 2-4pm. We will also be accepting donations at the move out.

Status Updates:

1. We have been offered caretaking services for our memorabilia, for which we are incredibly grateful.

2. We have a plan in place to rehome the literature to best help the community.

-----------
Hi Family.

Unfortunately, funding was not able to be achieved in order to keep our location at 2727 South Broad St sustainable.

The center will be hosting open hours today (Wednesday 1/4) and tomorrow) between 6 and 9, and Friday between 1 and 7 in order to give everyone an opportunity to stop by and bid the space farewell.

We will be using this opportunity to allow members to take home historical art memorabilia, literature, and furniture.

We are still seeking donations to restore the property from the vandalism it received in November to bring the property back to its proper state.

We plan to no longer be at this location after this Friday.

Love to everyone,
-Fletcher
Treasurer

The LGBT Community Center of New Orleans is looking forward to the future, but we need you to help shape that. The LGBT Community Center is recruiting new leadership: a President, Secretary, and Treasurer, as well as a new board of directors to lead the charge to help shape the vision of the Community Center and change the destiny for the underserved.

For the Community Center to succeed, it needs those with the knowledge and experience of putting together an organization from the ground up. Candidates must possess the ability to work through challenges with others with differing ideologies and life experiences; a community that divides itself is a community that weakens itself.

In addition to management experience, additional needs include those who have the ability to manage and run LGBT-centric event programming, raise funds, and have the strength to care.

We are asking all folks who have benefited from the center or donated to the center to consider joining the board in an official capacity. We will be requiring fiscal beneficiaries to send a representative to attend quarterly meetings.

It is imperative that interested parties respond quickly, because without support from you, there will no longer be a community center.

Please reach out to [email protected] if you are interested.

Signed,

Michael Fletcher, Treasurer
Santos Rodriguez, Vice President, acting President
Syr’ia Jackson, Board Member
Sable Switch, Board Member
David Armstead, Board Member

Welcome home, Brittney!!! 🙌🏾❤️🙌🏾

Thinking about all the people who labored on this whose names we’ll never know. The negotiators, the aides who made sure this stayed on the top of their bosses minds, and every person who cried out for justice. Thank you.

Let’s bring Paul Whelan home, next.

Today, on World AIDS Day, an estimated 37.7 million people are living with HIV/AIDS — our partners, friends, sons, daughters, parents, uncles, and cousins — our families and neighbors.

Since the start of the epidemic in 1981, more than 40 million people have died from AIDS-related illnesses, making AIDS the most significant global health crisis ever recorded.

How fitting that today’s global World AIDS Day theme is “Equalize”! As we continue the work to end disparities in HIV prevention and care, we must not be dissuaded from the mission of ensuring that all living with and impacted by HIV have access to the resources that allow them to thrive.

Today we honor those we have lost to AIDS, we celebrate those who are thriving, and we strive to build a movement where no one in our region is left to fight alone.
