Hello! We had a lively meeting of Rainbow Friend's tonight! We celebrated the success of the Employment Fair and talked about our goals. We questioned and debated (friendly debated because after all we are the Rainbow Friends :) ) a number of issues including how best to make sure our LGBTQ community is accessing resources needed for housing and employment. So we will support the 100 Day Youth Challenge to house 100 literally homeless youth and increase the stability of another 35 youth experiencing housing insecurity. Many of these young adults identify as LGBTQ+. Good stuff is coming! I think the group is building some muscle in figuring out how to impact some of these most pressing issues for the community. You may want to join us for all of our endeavors or for just one. Participation is welcome at any level.

Rainbow Friends is meeting to plan our next endeavors to end LGBTQ Homelessness this coming Thursday, Nov 14 at Crescent Care 1631 Elysian Fields Ave 4p. We are pleased with the Employment Fair and the almost 100 people in attendance, many of whom were currently without homes. We are working to find out how many were actually hired. It's time though to dream big again and perhaps even bigger! So if you are inclined to come and join us, do so! it didn't occur to me to invite all here but why not? Just shoot me a message if you are coming and I'll catch you up.

While the SCOTUS is arguing over whether or not to allow employment discrimination of LGBTQ+ citizens this little light was shining here in New Orleans this past Wednesday at 1st UU Church. Employers supportive of LGBTQ+ workers joined in the 1st LGBTQ+ Employment Fair hosted by Rainbow Friends, a collaborative of LGBTQ+ community leaders and UNITY CoC service providers working to end homelessness. Participants raved about the experience and the employers and requested repeat events. We will be repeatedly posting the names of the employers and donors so that everyone can throw business their way. Please let them know you appreciate the support and mention the employment fair!
