This is the side of law enforcement most people don’t always get to see.

Some days it’s tickets. Some days it’s taking bad guys to jail. It’s the occasional SWAT roll for Lt. Michael Helbach. And some days it’s carrying a kid who stole your heart.

While spending the day at Krewe de Camp, a camp for children and young adults with developmental disabilities, Lt. Helbach ended up carrying a little more than his gear…he carried a kid who stole his heart.

With all the joys that Krewe de Camp brings each year, comes the heartbreak of having to say goodbye. This year, we celebrated the graduation of campers Elliot, Jake, Dudley, and Jack, as well as the retirement of our legendary Nurse Colleen. We truly cherish the years we’ve gotten to spend with these amazing people. They are forever a part of the Krewe de Camp family, and their graduation allows for our family to continue to grow to more families.

Rhett’s shirt says it all—we’re happiest at KdC! Thursday was truly a joy-filled day spending our last hours of KdC Fest with the people we love before putting on our annual KdC Talent Show! There was enough joy cultivated in this one week that will fuel the rest of our year until we meet again next summer! A huge thank you to for their philanthropy, all of our attendants for their generosity, and to our beloved campers for bringing so much joy!

Congratulations to the Spirit of Krewe de Camp Camper Award winners Vivienne and Jack, they both radiate KdC! Congratulations to the Spirit of Krewe de Camp Attendant Award winners Cecilia Liggio and Jake Moreci. These two were among a group of amazing attendants and devoted themselves to KdC this week!
