Thank you to GNOEA member Otto Briede and Jacob Schoen & Son Funeral Home for hosting a GNOEA Breakfast Meeting and visitation on February 10 at their beautiful Canal Street facility.

Otto shared valuable insights about shifts and trends in the funeral industry and provided thoughtful tips based on his many years of experience serving families in the New Orleans community.

Thank you to Delgado Community College and Chancellor Larissa Littleton-Steib Phd for hosting a GNOEA Breakfast Meeting on campus on February 3.

Dr. Littleton-Steib shared exciting updates about the college’s growing enrollment and the expansion of key programs including nursing, business, and skilled trades. She also highlighted the significant financial advantages for high school graduates who begin their core curriculum at Delgado before transferring to a four-year university.

Thank you to Rafael C. Goyeneche III, President of the Metropolitan Crime Commission, for joining GNOEA and delivering an informative and candid presentation.

With more than four decades of leadership, Mr. Goyeneche discussed the Commission’s privately funded, citizen-driven mission to expose public corruption and strengthen the administration of justice to improve quality of life across Louisiana. He shared detailed statistics and reports involving the New Orleans Police Department, the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office, and the former New Orleans Mayor’s Office.

His frank discussion sparked thoughtful dialogue, and he took time to answer numerous questions from members. An engaging and eye-opening conversation on accountability, transparency, and civic responsibility.

We wrapped up our final GNOEA meeting of the year with an informative presentation from member Lonnie Smith, owner of Guaranty Sheet Metal Works, joined by special guest Ashley van der Meulen, licensed home inspector and owner of Compass Inspection Services.

Together, they provided an in-depth overview of the FORTIFIED Roofing Program and fielded thoughtful questions from members. A great way to close out the year with valuable insights and expert discussion.

Thank you to today’s GNOEA guest speakers from the Orleans Parish District Attorney's Office - District Attorney Jason Williams, Andre Collins Gaudin Jr. and Daniel Shanks.

We were honored to hear insights from this outstanding team on the New Orleans Data-Informed Community Engagement (NODICE) program — a groundbreaking initiative that uses advanced data modeling to identify and target crime hot spots across the city.

Andre Gaudin, Chief of Screening and founder of NODICE, along with Daniel Shanks, Screening Attorney & Director of Strategic Initiatives, shared how their unit is reimagining the role of screeners, strengthening cross-agency coordination, and partnering with community leaders to reduce major crimes.

District Attorney Jason Williams highlighted how these strategic investments and collaborations are contributing to significant declines in violent crime, including murders, in New Orleans.

A huge thank-you to DA Williams, Andre Gaudin, and Daniel Shanks for their time, leadership, and dedication to making our city safer.
