Lede New Orleans

Lede New Orleans Lede is a community media hub transforming how journalism serves the people of our city.

We do that by training emerging Black and Brown storytellers, amplifying stories that respond to local needs, and fostering trusted spaces for civic discussion.

For the last six months, our Community Reporting Fellows have been working on stories about housing, neighborhood change, memory, culture and belonging across New Orleans.

In May, our Home Is— journalism-meets-art exhibit brought those stories together in one space.

We saw neighbors sharing stories across generations. Fellows saw months of reporting come to life. Families lingered in front of installations, finding pieces of their own experiences reflected back to them. These photos capture just a small glimpse of the conversations, connections and reflections that emerged throughout the exhibit. We’re proud of the work these fellows created and grateful to everyone who joined us to experience it.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this showcase possible and to our fellows for the care, curiosity and dedication they brought to this work.

What does it mean to imagine a future for New Orleans together?

Last week, we partnered with Community Reporting Fellow Lauryn Hinton and TBD Magazine to host “We Are Still Here in the Future,” a workshop for collective imagination, climate reality and future-building. Artists, youth leaders, journalists and organizers gathered to process a recent Tulane study on climate adaptation and relocation, and ask what equitable futures for New Orleans could look like.

“This knowledge is not meant to just be circulated in institutions,” workshop facilitator Raji Ganesan () shared. “It’s meant to be processed by people who do have the expertise or solution to build alternative futures.”

The conversation explored displacement, water, memory and who is considered in the shaping of our city, while also grounding itself in possibility and shared solutions.

Thanks to TBD Magazine, Shana M. griffin and everyone who helped make this space possible.

We had a wonderful time last night hosting Why Storytelling Matters Now, a community conversation reflecting on the power of storytelling and connection in this moment.

The event closed out our Home Is— journalism-meets-art exhibit exploring local housing. The discussions we heard last night reminded us that storytelling is more than documentation. It’s preservation, connection and a way forward for our communities.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Home Is— and helped make this week so special.

Last night’s We Are Here in the Future workshop reminded us that imagination is a form of survival. ✨

We spent the evening asking big questions, creating art together, and imagining futures where New Orleanians are not displaced, but deeply rooted in place. Through conversation, creativity, and collective dreaming, we explored what housing justice, community care, and belonging can look like when we build them together.

Thank you to everyone who showed up, shared space, and helped turn imagination into something tangible. The room was full of possibilities.
