🥰 It was a joy to see both new and familiar faces at our CAC training this week! From Farmington to Carlsbad, and many other places in between, forensic interviewers, advocates, multidisciplinary team facilitators, and other CAC leaders came together to learn about case tracking in the Trak database, SANE exams and collaboration with medical partners, and valuable information on expert witness testimony in child abuse cases.

Thank you to our NMCSAP deputy director Rachel for guidance and support, NMCA forensic services director Michelle for so much planning and knowledge, data specialist Sandra for leading a practical day 1 on effectively using the Trak database, SANE nurse extraordinaire Maryann, and superhero prosecutor Sarah for stepping in on day 2 to offer such relevant information to our CAC professionals. We learned so much this week! 💙

And last but not least, THANK YOU to the CACs who showed up with your desire to learn, your questions, your challenges, your successes, and your flexibility this week during our training! Can’t wait to see you all again! 💙

that there are over 365,000 youth in foster care across the US? Our CACs provide resources and support to kids in foster care every day. As May comes to a close, we reflect on the kids who are unable to live at home with their families and the foster parents who have provided a safe and supportive place for them to land.

In New Mexico, approximately half of the children and youth in care are placed with relatives or fictive family members. If you or someone you know is interested in learning more about making a positive difference for kids in need in NM, check out BeTheVillageNM.org to get started. 😍 And that’s all, folks! Thank you to everyone who helped to make this week’s statewide Luminarias Conference a success! After months of planning by all of us at NMCSAP , it was a joy to see so many CACs, MDT partners, caring professionals, and community members learning and connecting this week at our annual conference! Special thanks to Joyce from Western Regional CAC for joining us to share her expertise on MDTs, and to all of the presenters who offered words of inspiration and hope to conference attendees at Isleta Hotel and casino in Albuquerque New Mexico. Healing is possible/sanar es posible! 💙🩵

👖 In addition to Child Abuse Prevention Month, our network of CACs also recognizes Denim Day every April! Denim Day is an annual part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month to show our solidarity and support for victims and survivors of all ages, and to raise awareness about consent. 💙 • It’s so NMCSAP staff across the state are wearing teal & denim to show our commitment to challenging harmful myths and building cultures of consent!

Today and everyday we loudly and unapologetically stand with survivors!

If you are wearing denim today, share a picture of yourself out in your community 💙

💙 It can be difficult for kids to bring up the topic of abuse. Trusted adults can make a difference by making space for the young people in their lives to feel safe talking about anything, even the hard things. It’s easy to miss warning signs, especially since they can present in many different ways. Let’s pay attention to what the kids in our lives are telling us. Set up open communication before a child ever needs to talk about hard things, and start by believing them if they tell you that they are uncomfortable.

In New Mexico, to report child abuse or neglect, call CYFD’s Statewide Central Intake (SCI) hotline 855-333-7233 or from a cell phone, text 505-591-9444, and/or contact your local law enforcement.

For free 24/7 support and information about local resources, contact the NMSA Helpline at 844-NMSAHLP
