Friedens Community Center is the home of the New Melle Country Market, the New Melle Food Co-op, our café-to-come, The New Melle Pulse, and a physical hub for community connection. Keeping it alive costs nearly $5,000 a month — right now, we’re only bringing in about $1,000.
When Co-op participation dropped last year, bills hit their highest. We had to close the doors and cover costs out of our own pockets. Hard lessons — but we learned.
From the outside, progress can look slow. From the inside, you’ll find a group of devoted working-class people volunteering their time and money to help make our home — today and for the next generation — feel a little more like home.
That’s why we spent the last two months planning. We didn’t hold back: financials, café menu, staffing — it’s all laid out and ready.
We don’t want anyone giving to something that might not happen. That’s why we built in a ZERO-RISK PLEDGE system:
✅ No payment info required to pledge
✅ If we reach the goal ($132,000 by Sept 24), we’ll send you a secure link to finalize
✅ If not, nothing is collected
This campaign isn’t about starting over — it’s about scaling what already works: reliable local food, shared space, and everyday infrastructure for community life.
💡 Every pledge brings us closer to a sustainable future for families, farmers, and neighbors right here in New Melle.
