Today is my 90th round of chemotherapy. Never in a million years did I think I'd be saying that. Considering a standard course with this chemo is 12 rounds, I definitely didn't expect to still be doing this 90 rounds later.

Since I'm getting pretty close to 100, I figured I should do something special to celebrate hitting triple digits. So I've decided to set a completely ridiculous goal of raising $100,000 for Cruising for Cancer by my 100th round of chemo.

I get chemo every other week, so that gives us about 20 weeks to pull this off.

I know $100,000 sounds like an insane amount of money, but when you break it down, it's really not as crazy as it sounds. That's 100 people donating $1,000 or 20 people donating $5,000.

And before anyone thinks they need to donate hundreds or thousands of dollars to make a difference, the majority of the money we've raised through our fundraisers over the years has come from people donating $10 or $20 at a time. Those smaller donations add up a whole lot faster than people realize, and they've allowed us to do some pretty great things.

Everything we raise between now and Christmas will go toward our annual Christmas toy drive for the Children's Hospital of Richmond. This is one of my favorite things we do every year, and I'd love to make this our biggest toy drive yet. I also want to clarify that the $100,000 is an overall goal, not just donations made directly to this fundraiser. Every fundraiser we have between now and my 100th round of chemo will count toward that total, and we'll also be adding up the value of all the toys donated during our Christmas toy drive and including that in our goal.

After Christmas, everything raised will go toward our patient programs, helping us continue giving people going through cancer treatment opportunities to have some fun, make memories, and enjoy life outside of hospitals and appointments.

I have no idea if we'll actually hit $100,000, but I figure if I'm going to make it through 100 rounds of chemo, we might as well try to do some awesome s**t along the way.

Our Christmas Toy Drive flyer is officially ready!

We recently put out a call for local businesses and workplaces interested in becoming toy drop-off locations, and we've already had several people volunteer to help!

If you'd like to participate, you can print out this flyer and attach it to a box of your own. If you don't have a box, just send me a message and I'll see what I can do to help get you one!

This year, we want to make things a little more interesting and encourage some friendly competition between our drop-off locations!

We're asking participating businesses to get creative with ways to encourage toy donations. Maybe offer customers a discount for bringing in a toy, run a special promotion, share your collection box on social media, or come up with something completely different!

And to make things even more fun, the business that collects the MOST toys will receive a FREE catered lunch from Chick-fil-A for their entire staff! 🐔

Our Christmas Toy Drive is hands down my favorite thing we do every year. Seeing the joy these toys bring to so many kids on Christmas morning is something I look forward to all year, and I want to make this year's drive the biggest we've ever had!
We're excited to see how many local businesses get involved and how many toys we can collect together for the kids at the Children's Hospital of Richmond.

Such a meaningful way to bring our community together and show support for those affected by cancer!

It was so special seeing everyone come together tonight, and we're incredibly thankful for all the love and support. Nights like these remind us why we do what we do, and we couldn't do it without this amazing community!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and we have a couple of great events coming up this month to support Cruising for Cancer and the patients we serve!

On October 8th, New Kent Field Hockey is hosting their “Stick It to Cancer” Pink Out Game at New Kent High School. They’ll have a bake sale and Pink Out shirts, with proceeds benefiting Cruising for Cancer. We’re incredibly grateful to the players, coaches, families, and everyone involved for continuing to support us year after year.

Then on October 24th, we’ll be at Richmond BMW for the Women’s Bimmers & Bagels Breast Cancer Awareness Cruise-In from 9–11 AM. They'll even have a custom-wrapped breast cancer awareness Cruising for Cancer BMW that everyone will have a chance to sign! Come check out some cool cars, grab a free bagel, meet the CFC crew, and help us support local cancer patients.

And somehow, Christmas is already sneaking up on us. That means our big annual Christmas Toy Drive for the Children’s Hospital of Richmond is right around the corner!

This year, we’d love to get even more of the community involved. If you own or work with a local business that would be willing to host a Cruising for Cancer toy donation drop box, please reach out to us. We’d love to partner with as many local businesses as possible and fill those boxes so we can bring a huge load of toys to the kids and families at CHoR this Christmas.

Our first Cruising for Cancer Night at the Ballpark!

Tonight we headed out to CarMax Park for a Richmond Flying Squirrels game, and it just happened to also be Childhood Cancer Awareness Night supporting the ASK Childhood Cancer Foundation. Pretty fitting night for this crew to be at the ballpark!

We had a couple birthdays to celebrate while we were there. Mikey’s birthday is only four days away, so we surprised him with a cake, sang Happy Birthday, and gave him a new iPad and Beats headphones! Emerson’s birthday is coming up next month, so we celebrated his a little early too and surprised him with a Nintendo Switch 2 and lots of Fortnite gear!

We also got to rip open some packs of Pokémon cards with Holden, which is always a good time.

Between Mikey, Emerson, Sherman, Holden, and myself, we had quite the cancer crew together tonight. It was really cool having everyone in one place and getting a chance to just hang out together without the treatments, scans, hospital stays, appointments, and everything else that normally comes along with cancer.

Unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans and the game was canceled because of the rain. We still made the most of the night, had some good food, and stuck around for the fireworks at the end.

Yesterday, the Chemo Cab was able to drop off some help to a local woman battling breast cancer who wishes to remain anonymous.

She had been out of work while taking care of her son after he was seriously injured in an accident, and between that and everything she is already dealing with through cancer, she had fallen behind on rent and monthly bills. By the time she reached out to us, she was only days away from potentially losing her home.

Paying rent and household bills is not something we typically do. Our mission has always been focused on giving cancer patients something positive to look forward to through trips, experiences, gifts, and other things that can bring a little happiness during an incredibly difficult time. But every situation is different.

Before reaching out to us, she had exhausted every other avenue available to her and showed us everything she had tried. Cruising for Cancer truly was her last resort. At that point, we felt like the right thing to do was step in and help. It's hard to enjoy anything or focus on fighting cancer when you're also worried about whether you're going to have a roof over your head.

This was an exception based on an extraordinary situation and isn't something we will routinely be able to offer moving forward. But sometimes we use our discretion to help a patient when the circumstances call for it, and this was absolutely one of those times.

A huge thank you to Haley Dawn Rose at Liz Moore and Associates for the recent event and fundraiser she put together for Cruising for Cancer. The money she helped raise is what allowed us to say yes when this woman desperately needed someone in her corner. Haley put in the time and effort to raise that money, and because of her generosity and everyone who supported her event, a woman fighting breast cancer doesn't have to wonder where she's going to live right now.

That's exactly why every fundraiser, donation, and person who supports Cruising for Cancer matters. Sometimes you don't know whose life that money is going to impact until the moment they need it most.

Today Holden got to deliver all the goodies that we picked out at Target last week to 4-year-old Mira as she makes her way through radiation treatments. We definitely didn't leave much room in the cart that day! She got an iPad and Apple Pencil, LEGO sets, coloring books, Play-Doh, water bottles, a whole bunch of stuffed animals, and plenty of other fun stuff to help keep her busy and hopefully bring some smiles during treatment.

Having Holden be the one to deliver everything made this one even more special. After everything he's been through with his own cancer treatments, he's choosing to use that experience to help another kid who is now going through some of the same tough days he knows all too well.

We're really proud to have Holden volunteering with Cruising for Cancer and being such a great ambassador for what we do. The fact that he reached out to us because he wanted to do something special for Mira says a lot about the kind of person he is. He's been through a lot himself, and seeing him turn around and use that experience to help someone else is pretty awesome.

Mira, we hope you love all your new stuff and that it makes some of those long treatment days a little more fun. We're wishing you the very best as you continue through radiation, and you've got a whole lot of people rooting for you! 🎗️

The Chemo Cab strikes again! 🚗💨🎗️

This time, Holden and I took it on a Target shopping mission for a pretty awesome reason.

Holden recently reached out to me and told me about a new friend he met at the Children's Hospital, a 4-year-old girl who was recently diagnosed with cancer. Holden met her while he was still going through treatment himself, as he was getting close to finishing up his treatments and she was just starting hers.

Holden told me he wanted to do something nice for her and asked if we could help. Of course, the answer was yes.

So today, we took the Chemo Cab to Target and loaded up on a whole bunch of goodies and toys for her. But Holden also made a point to make sure we shopped for her twin sister too. He told me that when a child is going through cancer treatment, their siblings can sometimes feel overlooked because so much attention understandably has to go toward the child who is sick. He wanted to make sure her sister felt just as special and included.

I think that says a whole lot about the kind of person Holden is. After everything he went through during his own cancer treatments, he's now using that experience to look out for another kid just starting that same fight, while also thinking about the family around her. That's a pretty awesome dude right there.

We were more than happy to help him make it happen, so we let Holden take the lead picking everything out and filled up the cart with all kinds of goodies. Once their schedules line up, he'll get to deliver everything to his new friend and her twin sister himself.

We're wishing this little girl nothing but the best as she starts this fight. We hope her treatments are as easy on her as possible, that there are plenty of good days mixed in with the hard ones, and that a Target haul picked out by a fellow cancer fighter can put a big smile on her face.

We'll keep everyone updated when he makes the delivery. The Chemo Cab will be ready for its next mission!

Back-to-school season is here, and we know that for families dealing with cancer, this time of year can bring a little extra stress.

Between treatment costs, traveling back and forth to appointments, missed work, gas, meals, and all of the other expenses that come along with cancer, buying everything on a back-to-school list can put even more strain on an already stretched budget.

This year, Cruising for Cancer would like to help with back-to-school supplies for families in our community who are currently dealing with active cancer treatment. This includes families with a child going through treatment, as well as cancer patients who have children heading back to school.

Whether it's backpacks, notebooks, pencils, those colorful index cards or those mega packs of highlighters, we'd love to take a little bit of that burden off your plate.

If you or a family you know could use some help, please send us a private message with a little information about the patient, their current treatment, the children who need supplies, and what would be most helpful. From there, we can talk privately about the next steps.

While we love to share the stories of the families we support, please know that receiving help from us does NOT mean your story has to be shared publicly. If you would rather keep everything completely private, we are more than happy to do that.

We are going to help as many families as our current funding allows. If we reach our limit, we'll keep a list so that as additional donations and funding come in, we can continue helping families on that list.

Today I took a trip in the Chemo Cab to meet up with a fellow cancer fighter, Kailey, and deliver one of our PowHER Packs.

Kailey has been battling Stage 3 breast cancer and was nominated by a friend who couldn't stop talking about how positive, strong, and amazing she is. After spending some time with her over coffee, I can definitely see why.

The timing couldn't have been better because Kailey had just finished her very last radiation treatment yesterday. That's a huge milestone, and we wanted to help her celebrate.

We surprised her with a YETI cooler filled with practical cancer items, a $500 Green Top gift card because we heard she loves to fish, a $500 Airbnb gift card so she and her boyfriend can plan a fun fishing getaway together, and $500 in cash for spending money.

As soon as she saw the cash, she told me she'd been wanting to book a charter fishing trip, so now she finally can. I have a feeling the fish aren't nearly as excited about this trip as she is.

None of this would be possible without every one of you. Every donation, every share, every volunteer, and every person who supports Cruising for Cancer makes moments like this possible. Thank you for helping us remind people going through hell that they deserve a little heaven too.

Please keep Kailey in your thoughts as she starts this next chapter. Finishing treatment is an incredible milestone, but anyone who's faced cancer knows the worry doesn't always end there. We hope this is the beginning of a long, healthy, happy life filled with fishing trips, adventures, and making memories with the people she loves.
