People in Connecticut, like many others across the country, are not just food insecure—they are hungry.
On Friday, July 24, we had a visit from U.S. Representative Rosa DeLauro. She first listened as our Director of Strategic Operations, Catherine McGuinness, shared the national and local context that shapes our work as an environmental food recovery nonprofit.
Some of our dedicated volunteers, recipient nonprofits, and food donors were there at the table to share their experiences with rescued food. The work that Haven’s Harvest does is dependent on the relationships we create and maintain. We are so grateful that Rep. DeLauro could hear directly from our extraordinary partners.
Rep. DeLauro recognized during our conversations how logistics-heavy the work of recovering excess food is—connecting with food donors, finding recipient nonprofits, matching the type of food donated to the appropriate community, coordinating volunteers. We do all of this to reduce food waste and, centrally, to build our community.
Thank you to all of our partners and volunteers for sharing your stories and insight on Friday. You are all the reason we can do this work. Thank you to Rosa DeLauro and her amazing team—Keyri, Dave, and John—for making time in your schedules to join us.
