Emerging Infectious Diseases and One Health
Emerging infectious diseases (EIDs) are diseases that are newly identified or have recently increased in incidence. (Ebola, Zika, Nipah, and more recently, Covid 19, H5N1 or Bird Flu, HMPV). Many of these diseases are zoonotic, meaning they can be transmitted between animals and humans.
WHO came up with a concept of ‘One Health’. It's an integrated approach where the health of people is closely linked to animal health and our shared environment.
We at Health and Beyond, endorse and support the concept of ‘One Health’.
Dr Shanta Misra, our Health communication and Wellness expert, in conversation with Senior Infectious Disease and Public Health experts, Dr. SN Misra and Prof. Dr. Dipanjan Roy discuss more about the Emerging Infectious Diseases and the ‘One Health’ approach.
