It’s that time of year! Knit the Rainbow is ready to launch our annual garment collection period beginning on October 1st.

Starting on the first, you can ship or drop-off donations to our NEW address: 700 W 192nd St, Apt 304, New York, NY 10040

As a reminder, we accept all handmade knit and crochet winter wearables. So that means items like scarves, cowls, beanies, socks, gloves, mittens, ear warmers, sweaters, etc. You can craft in whatever colors, fibers, or patterns you would like so long as the finished garment will fit someone 12 years old or older.

Don’t forget to use our inventory sheet when you ship a donation to us! You can find it at the link in our bio. Thank you for helping us keep LGBTQ+ youth warm this winter!

Happy Crafting!

THANK YOU to our amazing volunteers and the hundreds of people who stopped by our booth at NYC Pride PrideFest yesterday! 🌈🏳️‍🌈

We had a blast, signed up tons of new volunteers, handed of thousands of freebies, and spread lots of joy with our bubble machine. Thank you Lion Brand for sponsoring our booth!

We’ll see you again next year!

We are still looking for some volunteers to staff our booth at PrideFest this weekend!

Happy Pride! 🌈🧶🤍🩷🩵

This month (and every month), we show up with our hooks, our needles, and our whole hearts. At Knit the Rainbow, pride is not just a celebration, it is a practice. We knit warmth into the hands of LGBTQIA+ neighbors experiencing housing insecurity. We crochet community in our workshops for q***r youth. We resist systems that leave our people out in the cold, literally and figuratively.

So whether you are casting on your first stitch or you have been in the fiber arts game for decades, know that there is a seat at this table for you.

Knit. Crochet. Resist. Repeat. 🏳️‍🌈🧵

WOW! We are so proud to share that we distributed 11,300 handmade winter garments for unhoused and at-risk LGBTQ+ youth during the Winter 2025/2026 season.

We would like to give a big thank you to all
of our volunteers, yarn shops/small business drop off locations, and donors! NONE of this would be possible without your continued dedication and support!

Together, we helped keep the youth of NYC, New Jersey, Chicago, and Detroit warm during a particularly harsh winter, with over a week of sub-freezing temps in January. This year, your garments really made a difference.

We are thankful for each and every donation, whether it’s one garment donation or 100, your contribution matters! We hope everyone has a lovely summer, and keep an eye out to see when we will start taking donations again in the Fall.
