We are honored to have the Garrett Kunkel Memorial Project featured in the Herald-Zeitung! This article highlights Garrett’s story, the heart behind our mission, our recent fundraiser, and the impact we are making right here in our New Braunfels community.

What began as a way to honor Garrett’s life and carry on his love of service has grown into something truly meaningful. Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, donors, volunteers, project partners, and community, we are able to help neighbors in need while keeping Garrett’s memory alive through acts of service.

Our recent fundraiser raised just shy of $10,000, and we are so grateful to everyone who continues to believe in our mission and help us make a difference.

Two years after losing Garrett Kunkel, his family is keeping his memory alive by doing what he did best: serving others. The Kunkel family hosted the second annual Garrett Kunkel Memorial Project fundraiser Saturday at Sip N Putt, raising more than $10,000 to support hands-on projects for elderly, disabled and other neighbors in need.

You provided the perfect setting for an afternoon filled with fun, connection, and purpose, bringing people together to enjoy time with family and friends while learning about Garrett, his legacy, and the mission behind our project.

We are beyond grateful to share that at the conclusion of our 2026 Sip N Putt Fundraiser, we had raised $9,004! And thanks to the incredible generosity of our community, additional donations continued to come in during the days following the event, bringing our final fundraising total to $10,000!!

Every ticket purchased, raffle entry, sponsorship, donation, shared post, kind word of support, and helping hand made a difference. These funds will help us continue turning Garrett’s legacy into action through hands-on service projects that improve safety, accessibility, and quality of life for our neighbors facing hardship.

Last year, this community helped us raise over $10,000 in monetary funds that were put right back into New Braunfels through three service projects completed alongside our amazing volunteers and project partners. This year, you’ve shown up once again, and we cannot wait to see the impact we make together!

Our 2026 Garrett Kunkel Memorial Project Fundraiser at Sip n Putt was truly a success, and we are still feeling so grateful for the incredible support we received! We had so much fun we almost forgot to take a few pictures!

From enjoying a round of putt-putt and connecting with familiar faces to welcoming new supporters, the day was a beautiful reminder of what the Garrett Kunkel Memorial Project is all about: bringing people together through service, compassion, and community.

One of the most meaningful parts of the day was getting to share Garrett’s story with people who had never heard of him or our project before. Some were simply enjoying their own day at Sip N Putt when they noticed our event and stopped by to learn more. We had the opportunity to tell them about Garrett, the life he lived, the legacy we are working to carry forward, and the impact our project is making right here in New Braunfels.

Those conversations mean so much to us. While fundraising allows us to continue serving our neighbors, introducing new people to Garrett and helping his story live on is just as special. Every new connection is another opportunity to spread his love of service a little further.

We are so excited to finish tallying up the numbers and share the final impact you all have made and get to watch be shared with the community!

Testimonial time from our bathroom renovation recipient!

As we reflect on our first year, we wanted to share a few words from the very person whose life was changed by this project.

What began as a simple request for a safer shower became a full bathroom renovation focused on restoring safety, independence, and dignity. When asked what the transformation meant, our recipient shared:

“It has changed my life completely. I can take a shower now. Before, I couldn't take a shower. Couldn't get in and out of the bathtub.”

When asked what they felt was at the heart of the Garrett Kunkel Memorial Project, their response was just as powerful:

“I think it's love, I think, love for other people, people that need help, and people like me that are handicapped. We can't do the work ourselves anymore.”

Reflecting on the volunteers who came together, they added:

“They were great. They did everything that I could ever ask for… They all worked together well, and you all coordinated everything well.”

And perhaps most meaningful of all was hearing them reflect on Garrett and what he learned about the love that inspired this work.

“I feel like I know him now”

Their words reminded us why we do what we do and how much this project can mean to the people we serve.

To every volunteer, project partner, and donor who helped make this transformation possible: THANK YOU. You helped restore comfort, safety, and independence while carrying forward Garrett's compassion, hard work, and love of helping others.
