God, I Want Everything You Have for Me

Does that sound a bit arrogant? That’s what I thought the first time I heard that statement. Then I thought about it in light of Ephesians 1:3, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ.” As a child of God, we have already been given everything we need, but too often we don’t believe it, or we don’t receive it. Is our unbelief rooted in a misconception of our own identity? Or do we miss receiving what God desires for us by neglecting to ask Him?

It's not arrogant to ask God to help you become everything He created you to be. Identifying our true purpose and living it out is the abundant life He promises. Paul, after declaring that we have been blessed with every spiritual blessing, goes on to say in verse 18, “I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints.” He is praying that we are not blind to what God has for us as followers of Jesus. Don’t allow a false identity keep you from believing what God desires for your life. Embrace your true identity in God’s Kingdom as it says in 2 Cor 5:17, “Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature. The old things passed away. Behold, new things have come.” As a child of God, believe that He desires to bless you.

On the other hand, maybe the problem is that we never ask God for everything He has for our lives. James 4:2-3 says, “You do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives.” Our conversations with the Creator of the universe should be intimate, like a child speaking to a loving parent. Tell Him where you are lacking. He already knows, but as a loving Father He wants to talk with us about these areas of our life. To say to God, “I want everything you have for me,” is simply sharing our desire to be who He created us to be. It is our confession, or truth telling of who we are, while acknowledging that He is the key to everything we need to become our very best.

Consider beginning your next conversation with God by letting Him know your desire for everything He has for you. Talk with Him about areas of your life you desire to change. Come to Him expecting to hear and discover great things. Then listen, watch, wait, and obey as He leads you on the greatest of journeys.
