On Saturday, June 13th, members of the New Bern NCSAR Chapter Musket Team, traveled to Swansboro to provide a special demonstration during their America 250 “Arts by the Sea Festival”. SAR members participating in the demonstration were Scott Brick (Chapter Color Guard Commander), Bob Ainsley (Past Chapter President), Jeff Perkins, Tom Harris and Ralph Gray (Chapter 1st VP).

On Saturday, June 13th, members of the New Bern NCSAR Chapter Color Guard and Musket Team, joined the New Bern Elks Lodge #764 to celebrate “Flag Day”, at Union Point Park in downtown New Bern. It was a morning that the attendees could learn about the history (evolution) of our Flag and hear what it means to so many.
SAR members in attendance were Gary Gillette (Chapter President), Ralph Gray (Chapter 1st VP), Scott Brick (Chapter Color Guard Commander), Bob Ainsley (Past Chapter President), David Cox, Charles Patton, Bruce Martin, David Webster, Tom Harris, and Warren Kundson (Chapter 2nd VP).

On this day in 1775, the Continental Congress authorized the formation of the Continental Army, enlisting skilled riflemen to serve the United Colonies for one year. This decision established what would become the U.S. Army, more than a year before the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.

On June 11th, members of the New Bern NCSAR Chapter, and Richard Dobbs Spaight (RDS) NSDAR Chapter took the “Patriot Education Chest Program” (PEC) on the road and put on a special program of “education and fun” during the Emerald Isle Parks & Recreation Summer Day Camp in Emeral Isle, NC. Approx 36 children, ages 6 to 12 years old, enjoyed learning about “life in the colonial days”, and making their own “colonial toys” to take home.
SAR Chapter members in attendance were Gary Gillette (New Bern Chapter President) and Ralph Gray (New Bern Chapter 1st VP). NSDAR Chapter members in attendance were Tammy Gillette (RDS Chapter Regent), Sims Wayt (RDS Chapter Past Regent), Michele Rose (RDS PEC Chapter Chair) and Marylynn Keener (NSDAR District 8 Director). Also helping out and having fun during the program was Glenda Terry (Regent, Otway Burns NSDAR Chapter).

On June 8th, three (3) members of the New Bern Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) made a special presentation at the La Grange Public Library, in La Grange, NC. Attendees had the opportunity to learn about the history of our American Flag, from the very first flag flown during the American Revolution, to our current flag that we see flown today. Attendees also learned about the Revolutionary uniforms/clothing worn by the SAR presenters, as well as some interesting facts regarding the muskets used during the Revolution. Overall, it was a fun afternoon of learning.
New Bern Chapter members in attendance were Gary Gillette (Chapter President), Bob Ainsley (Past Chapter President) and Scott Brick (Chapter Color Guard Commander. Also assisting in the presentation was George Strunk (President, General George Washington SAR Chapter).
