Allies for Cherry Point's Tomorrow

Allies for Cherry Point's Tomorrow ACT advocates for the existence and success of Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, Fleet Readiness Center East and its civilian enterprises.

Allies for Cherry Point’s Tomorrow, or ACT, was founded in the 1990s as a group of concerned civic and business leaders to advocate for MCAS Cherry Point and FRC East during early rounds of the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) process. The original group called itself “Allies In Defense of Cherry Point” and was successful in removing the air station and the NADEP from the closure list. In 2003,

the name changed to Allies for Cherry Point’s Tomorrow because this group of leaders from Craven, Carteret, Pamlico and Jones Counties believed that the next BRAC commission should ensure that the missions of MCAS Cherry Point and FRC East be maintained as they are critical facilities in the nation’s military infrastructure. It is our goal to educate policy makers, Cherry Point employees, news media and the general public about the importance of Cherry Point to our national defense and regional economy. We want to create a network of motivated citizens who will join ACT’s advocacy efforts on behalf of Cherry Point.

We were honored to welcome Laurie Buckhout for Congress, to meet with the ACT board at our last board meeting.

Laurie took time to learn more about ACT’s mission and the critical role Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point plays in Eastern North Carolina.

ACT remains committed to advocating for the growth and enhancement of Cherry Point’s economic impact, operational readiness, and long-term viability. We appreciate leaders and candidates who take the time to engage in that conversation and learn more about the needs of our region.

A legendary era in military aviation comes to a close today.

Today, the AV-8B Harrier II fleet officially retires during the sundown ceremony with Marine Attack Squadron 223 (VMA-223), part of 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, marking the end of a remarkable 55-year chapter in aviation history.

To honor this historic moment, Allies for Cherry Point’s Tomorrow partnered with Bespoken Spirits Inc. and Give270 to release Final Flight Reserve, a limited-edition bourbon bottled at 108 proof and limited to only 1,500 bottles.

With only 30 retail bottles left for sale at the Harrier Sundown ceremony, the Give270 silent auction is the best way to support the mission and take home an exclusive numbered bottle honoring the Harrier legacy.

Proceeds from the auction support ACT and MCAS Cherry Point.
