โค๏ธ๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ’š HAPPY JUNETEENTH! โค๏ธ๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ’š

Today we honor June 19, 1865 โ€” the day enslaved people in Galveston, Texas finally received word of their freedom, 2.5 years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Today we remember, we reflect, and we lift up the resilience and joy of Black Americans across nearly 250 years of struggle and triumph.

And TOMORROW, we celebrate together. ๐ŸŽ‰

๐ŸŽ–๏ธ Secretary of State and Lieutenant Governor Dr. Dale Caldwell will be marching with us.

๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿพ Abundant resources on education, health, safety, and voting will be there!

๐Ÿ’ฅ Three dates. One truth.

โŒ July 4th, 1776 โ€” Independence was declared, but not for all.

โŒ January 1st, 1863 โ€” The Emancipation Proclamation was issued, but word did not reach everyone.

โœ… June 19th, 1865 โ€” Enslaved people in Galveston, Texas finally learned they were free โ€” 2ยฝ years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿพ Juneteenth marks the day word of freedom reached the last enslaved people in the Confederacy.

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿพ Slaveryโ€™s final, nationwide end came months later, with the ratification of the 13th Amendment on December 6, 1865.

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿพ Together, these days tell the full story of freedom โ€” and that is why we celebrate.

๐Ÿšฉ Do you know what the Juneteenth flag means?

โญ STAR represents freedom for every Black American in every state โ€” and pays homage to the Lone Star of Texas, where the last enslaved people were freed.
๐Ÿ’ฅ BURST surrounding the star symbolizes a new beginning for all.
๐ŸŒ… ARC represents a new horizon of opportunities for Black Americans.

ONLY 6 DAYS until Saturday, June 20 at 10 AM, when we raise this flag together at the Neptune Municipal Building (25 Neptune Blvd). Be there as it rises. ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿพ
