Service is one of the 4 core values of the Sea Cadet program.

Cadets are eligible to earn the Community Service Ribbon for every 30 hours of service completed.

They have partnered with Youth Volunteer Corps in Joplin, Hope Kitchen Neosho, George Washington Carver National Monument, Wilson's Creek National Battlefield, Newton County Cemetery Preservation and more.

Do you know of an organization that would like to host these amazing youth? They love to get dirty and see their projects come to fruition.

School is in now back in session for all of our cadets. The Sea Cadet program recognized cadets with the Academic Achievement ribbon at the end of each semester for no grades lower than a B.

We are anxious to see the hard work cadets will put toward their academic studies.
How many academic achievement ribbons will we have the honor of issuing to deserving cadets this semester?

This summer 6 of our cadets successfully completed a training. These trainings help the cadets grow as individuals and members of a team while challenging themselves to try new things in a safe and supportive environment.

4 cadets attended Little Rock.
-1 for advance scuba
-1 for Recruit Training (bootcamp)
-2 for Navy League Orientation (bootcamp for middle school age with lots of fun to cover the basics of the program)

1 cadet attended Navy League Orientation in Lexington, Kentucky
Our final cadet attended a Field Operations training in Baltimore, Maryland.

We are so extremely proud of each of these cadets for being eligible to attend a summer training. Cadets must meet required criteria including have a minimum rank and a passing Physical Readiness Test (PRT) score. This shows their determination and motivation to improve while continuing to teach them leadership skills and discipline.

Bravo Zulu to all of our cadets that challenged themselves to meet the requirements to attend and to our adult volunteers for helping ensure these cadets are prepared to represent our unit well.

We meet monthly at Camp Crowder and are enrolling motivated youth age 10/5th grade-18.

We had the honor of teaming uo with the Newton County Cemetery Preservation to restore 28 veteran headstones this weekend. What a wonderful day learning how and why this is so important. Cadets said they enjoyed their time working, getting dirty (they always like to get dirty) and learning why this is so important to the adults that spend their hours volunteering to honor those in Newton County.

Spring has flown by for these cadets and our adult team.

March highlights include:
-taking shelter when the tornado sirens went off at Camp Crowder
-unit inspection with U.S. Navy Retired Master Chief. Cadets stand in their full dress uniforms and are tested on their knowledge of the program and the U.S. Navy
-night ops
-obstacle course
-our Regional Director announced our Cadet Of The Year recipient

April included:
-basic medical training by our Corpsman
-community service and Civil War history at Wilson's Creek National Battlefield. Look at all the trash these cadets help remove from the creek. Staff said it is all run off from the greater Springfield area. Wow!
-flag football for team building and some additional PT
-KP duty for our cadets to learn to help prep, cook and clean up meals.
-squads and leaders adjusted to allow cadets to continue to grow as leaders and followers while increasing their knowledge base
-2 cadets earned an advancement in rank
-knockout drill by request

Cadets have learned and grown (literally) so much this Spring. We are so proud of all the hard work we are seeing. We are truly honored to be able to work with this fantastic group of motivated cadets.
