Just another day of ministry in Alaska…cutting fire lanes🔥

As Airport Manager in Nenana, I recently got the call to help with a wildfire threatening our neighbors just down the road in Anderson.

So…trade the airplane for heavy equipment, put on the fire gear, and go where you're needed!

Ministry for us has never been confined to a church, a prayer meeting, or even an airplane.

It’s about being PRESENT.

Living alongside people in need.

Showing up when things get tough.

Sometimes that means flying to the most isolated village or children’s camp.

Sometimes it meansitting across the table just listening to someone's story.

And sometimes…it means spending days surrounded by smoke, burning timber, firefighters, and heavy equipment.

This is life AND ministry in Interior Alaska.

ACCESS creates PRESENCE.

PRESENCE builds RELATIONSHIPS.

RELATIONSHIPS open doors to the GOSPEL.

Everyday our prayer remains the same:

“LORD, show us where YOU are working…and let us join YOU there!”

For SEEN International, ministry is not only about where we go or what we build.

It is also about WHO we gather with along the way.

Whether it is a Bible study under a simple shelter, a time of prayer before the day begins, worship with a local church, or a meal shared after a long day of serving, these moments of fellowship matter.

Hebrews 10:25 reminds us not to neglect meeting together, but to encourage one another.

That encouragement is especially important in places where ministry can feel isolated or demanding.

Gathering together gives us the opportunity to listen, pray, worship, learn, and remind one another why we serve in the first place.

Some of the most meaningful moments on a SEEN trip may never happen during the project itself.

They happen in conversations around a table, during prayer with a family, while studying Scripture together, or in worship with brothers and sisters in Christ from a different community or culture.

Those moments strengthen relationships and build the kind of unity that practical service alone cannot create.

At SEEN International, we believe serving people and growing together in Christ should go hand in hand.

We work together, pray together, worship together, and encourage one another—because ministry is stronger when it is rooted in relationship and shared faith.

Sometimes the airstrip just isn’t an option…

When weight, weather, or wind keep us from Camp Nahshii’s airstrip, God provides another way.

For a few short windows each year, the Yukon River drops low enough to reveal this incredible gravel bar—just a 10-minute boat ride from camp.

Obstacles (a few trees & stumps)?

Absolutely.

But ACCESS creates PRESENCE—and PRESENCE creates opportunity to share the GOSPEL!

Critical supplies. An incredible children’s camp. And HIS calling and mission “…unto the UTTERMOST!”

This is why we fly.

Sometimes God simply reminds us to just LOOK UP.

One of my many roles with the City of Nenana is bailing gravel for our various projects.

Often that happens late in the evening, after an already long day of work and ministry.

On this particular night, I’ll admit it—I was feeling a bit sorry for myself.

As darkness settled in and I kept bailing bucket after bucket after bucket, the Holy Spirit gently reminded me of Paul and his tent-making ministry—working with his own hands to make a living, all within God’s calling.

Sometimes ministry looks a lot like an ordinary day of work.

It’s living life alongside people.

Serving.

Working.

Showing up.

Building relationships.

And being PRESENT wherever God has placed us.

And then…as if that reminder wasn’t enough…

I had no choice but to LOOK UP!

I first just saw glimmers.

Then I turned the lights off. My eyes adjusted and the Northern Lights literally began dancing across the Alaskan sky!

What a reminder of HIS promises.

HIS faithfulness.

HIS beauty.

And HIS calling, and of something infinitely greater: ETERNITY awaits!

And THAT is ultimately why we are here—so that others might know Jesus Christ and one day experience the fullness of HIS unending LOVE, HIS unimaginable BEAUTY, and LIFE with HIM for all ETERNITY!

I smiled my "Dan smile"…and kept bailing gravel late into the night—forever changed!

Believers of Jesus Christ are the church - that's a big reason we gather on Sundays, but it doesn't have to stop there 🙂

Bible studies and devotionals are pillars in what we do in Alaska with those we serve and those who come alongside us 🙏

"Let us not neglect meeting together, as some have made a habit, but let us encourage one another..."
Hebrews 10:25

Was it worth it?

The generator is running again at Camp Nahshii.

Not much of a headline... until you understand what 𝗧𝗛𝗔𝗧 generator means.

Camp Nahshii is a remote Alaska camp dedicated to reaching young people with the hope of Jesus Christ and helping prevent su***de among Alaska's youth.

In a place with no power grid, generators aren't a convenience—they're ESSENTIAL.

A simple repair became a story of partnership.

It took 4 ministries, Last Frontier Ministries (Camp Nahshii), Muskox Ministries Covenant Aero, and SEEN International working together.

Trip 1: Camp Nahshii and Muskox coordinating with SEEN International and Covenant Aero for SEEN to fly to camp to diagnose and attempt repairs.

Trip 2: After weeks of waiting for parts, Dan with SEEN and Covenant Aero fly back, land in the snow, complete those repairs, and discover additional issues.

Trip 3: Muskox, coordinating flights for Dan from SEEN; Return one more time to finish the job!

In the end, restoring one generator required:

• Nearly 800 miles of flying
• 6.5 hours in the air
• 84 gallons of AvGas (over $8 per gallon)
• Nearly 20 hours of combined time and effort

On our flight home, God gifted us with these skies.

I often said...

“Trying to imagine what Heaven is like only limits its possibilities!”

Paul said this; “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined the things that God has prepared for those who love him.”
— 1 Corinthians 2:9

If THIS is only a tiny glimpse…just imagine what awaits us in Eternity!

And why wouldn't we want to bring as many with us as possible?

Help the un-seen be SEEN and let’s reach the lost together in Jesus Precious Name!

So... was all of that worth it just to fix an old generator? No.

It was an Eternal investment in a place where the Gospel is shared and lives are transformed through accepting Jesus Christ as their savior.

And someday, we may well discover that it was also ETERNALLY worth it!

Alaska has a way of reminding you just how big the world is—and how intentional you have to be to reach people in it.

Serving with SEEN International in Alaska can mean traveling far beyond familiar roads, stepping into remote communities, and experiencing ministry in places where distance, weather, and logistics are part of everyday life.

But the adventure is never just about the scenery.

It is about purpose.

Every flight, every project, every conversation, and every act of service creates an opportunity to encourage local churches, strengthen ministries, build relationships, and share the hope of Christ in meaningful ways.

The setting may be unforgettable, but the people are the reason we go.

A SEEN International trip can stretch you physically, spiritually, and relationally.

You may work hard, travel farther than expected, serve in unfamiliar conditions, and experience parts of Alaska few people ever see.

Along the way, you serve alongside others who share the same goal: to use their time, skills, and willingness to make a tangible difference.

This is where Adventure and Mission meet—where breathtaking places become the backdrop for something far more important.

Come ready to serve, ready to grow, and ready to see how God can use an ordinary willingness to go in extraordinary places.

Grateful to experience another day and God's greatness.

It's not hard to see God's handiwork in Alaska - from rushing waters to still waters, vast forests to colorful sunrises and sunsets.

"From the rising of the sun to its setting, the name of the Lord is to be praised"
Psalm 113:3

𝗦𝗢𝗨𝗡𝗗 𝗢𝗡 to enjoy the rushing water of the Chena River in Alaska!

The Chena River winds for roughly 160 miles through Interior Alaska, beginning in the Tanana Uplands east of Fairbanks before eventually joining the Tanana River near the city.

Its watershed covers about 2,000 square miles and provides important habitat for wildlife and fish, including Chinook and chum salmon.

The vast rivers, forests, and open landscapes are a constant reminder of both the beauty and scale of this state.

At SEEN International, we’re grateful for every opportunity to travel through places like this while building relationships and serving communities across Alaska.

Alaska has a way of reminding you just how vast, rugged, and beautiful God’s creation can be.

From mountain ridges to winding rivers and remote communities, every flight reveals another view that is hard to put into words.

It’s one of the many reasons we at SEEN International love serving here.

The beauty is remarkable, but even more meaningful are the people and communities we have the privilege to serve across this incredible state 🙏
