This year's dig in Nauvoo, Illinois, will begin on May 6th through June 6th. We will be excavating the home site of William Scearce. He lived in Nauvoo during the 1840's.

Shifts are available for volunteers between 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM, and 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Since there is no available parking at the site, you will receive additional instructions on where to park before your shift once you register. The iDigNauvoo team would like to congratulate the Western Illinois University Archaeological Field School for their exemplary work in excavating the Hyrum Smith Office and Store in Nauvoo, Illinois, in 2024. Their hard work made it possible for them to finish the dig for this site. We look forward to their published report on their findings.

A special thanks goes to Professor Jacob Skousen and the Western Illinois University Field School students who provided expertise and energy in making this year's dig a great success.

We would also like to thank Lach and Kristen Mckay of the Joseph Smith Historical Site, and Ben Pykles and Ryan Saltzgiver of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Historical Department for their unfailing support. And a special shout-out to all of the many iDigNauvoo volunteers who have given countless hours of service over the past six years in excavating this specific site.

In 2025, we plan to excavate the site of the William Scearce home, located in the Nauvoo town proper on Young Street. More information about this and other archaeological investigations will be forthcoming.

The Mansion House Story

The book I am writing about the Joseph and Emma Smith Mansion in Nauvoo needs colorful personal anecdotes from guides, caretakers, visitors and especially those who spent the night in its embrace. If you have such an experience to be considered for inclusion, please send to [email protected].

IdigNauvoo will have representation at the John Whitmer Historical Association convention in Rochester, New York. Numerous photos from our work accompany the presentation showing ties of architecture to cognition in the Joseph Smith Jr. experience.
