Lost and Found!
Steve has had a rough month—but his story is finally turning toward a happy ending.
After his owner passed away, Steve was placed with a foster family. Then, in one quick dash through an open door, he found himself alone outside. It was a bad decision for an indoor cat—and the beginning of a frightening adventure.
A kind woman in the neighborhood began leaving food out for him every day. Then she noticed something was wrong: Steve was limping and crying loudly for help.
She called us right away. We brought her a live trap, she safely caught Steve, and we rushed him to Dr. Lesko at Sunrise Side Veterinary Hospital.
Steve was frightened, hurting, and not at all interested in making friends. He hissed from inside the trap, then darted into hiding when Dr. Lesko let him out. With patience, gentle coaxing, and a few well-placed treats, she earned enough of his trust to examine him.
Steve had been bitten on the leg by another animal, and the wound had become infected. Dr. Lesko prescribed antibiotics and pain medication, giving him the relief—and the second chance—he desperately needed.
Within a few days, Steve was walking comfortably again. After a week, the scared and hurting stray had disappeared, and the sweet cat everyone remembered was back: purring, playing, making biscuits, and head-butting the members of our rescue.
Meanwhile, our Facebook post helped piece together his past. Members of the community came forward to tell us what had happened to his owner and confirm that Steve was not a stray at all—he was a much-loved escapee who had lost his way.
And now, just look at him! Steve is vaccinated, has received flea and tick treatment, and has tested negative for feline diseases. He arrived remarkably clean and showed no signs of fleas or ticks—one more clue that this handsome boy had always been an indoor cat.
Steve will be neutered next week. After that, he will be ready for the best part of his journey: finding a safe, loving forever home.
A heartfelt thank-you to everyone who fed him, caught him, cared for him, treated him, shared his story, and helped us put the pieces together. Steve’s happy ending is almost here.
