The Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, Mu Omega Zeta Chapter hosted its Miss Juneteenth Heritage Pageant on Saturday, May 30, celebrating heritage, confidence, and community pride.

Several members of the Krewe of The 9 participated in and supported this special event. King II-Elect Matthew Craig and Duchess of Scholarship-Elect Ruby Braxton served as pageant judges. Outgoing Queen I, Tan’Keia Palmer, had the honor of crowning the newly selected Junior Miss Juneteenth. New Krewe member and Mu Omega Zeta member, Julia Davis, served as the pageant coordinator. Also attending in support of the pageant were Queen II-Elect Yolanda Bobb, Betty Smith-Kirkendoll, Shantrece Underwood-Hooker, new krewe member and Mu Omega Zeta member Shanita Grayson.

The pageant's theme, “Celebrating Heritage, Confidence, and Community Pride,” beautifully highlighted the significance of culture, leadership, and empowerment within the community.

Nurturing our future ...

Members of the Krewe of The 9 provided lunch for Natchitoches Parish students-participating in the third annual 3D Digital Summer Field School Camp-May 29 at First Baptist Church-North Street.

Led by National Park Service (Natchitoches, LA.) representative Jason Church in association with Northwestern State University faculty, staff and students, the intense (grant driven) two week program provides students (10th grade to freshmen year in college) with an opportunity to understand, appreciate how to carefully research and document historic places and spaces in communities at-large, using drones and various technological devices and instruments. In recent years, members of the krewe were given (by the camp staff) a thorough overview of the program's scope and expected outcome.

In the assembled photo (from left to right), several of the young scholarly researchers seated and the back row includes: 2026 camp staff Addie Solieau, Church and Krewe of The 9 revelers Olga Nell LeBrum, Cynthia Harmon, Judith Hayes and Ruby Braxton.

The krewe's inaugural (one day) science and engineering camp will be June 16 for students in grades 4th to 8th at Northwestern State University. Specific information is forthcoming!
