Today, we honor a powerful Indigenous teaching from the Andes: ayni — the sacred practice of reciprocity.

For generations, Andean communities have lived by the understanding that everything is connected — people, land, water, and spirit. What we take, we must give back. What we receive, we are responsible to return.

Ayni is not just about exchange — it’s about balance, care, and community. It reminds us that the Earth is not a resource to use, but a relationship to nurture.

Envisioned and brought to life by visual artist José Vera, this altar honors loved ones who have passed and celebrates the deep connections between life and death.

🪶 Rooted in Indigenous traditions and enriched by Catholic influences, Día de los Mu***os is celebrated in Mexico, across Latin America, and in the United States — a living tradition that reminds us that love and memory never die. 💞

Families build ofrendas (altars) with:

* Marigolds (cempasúchil) — guiding spirits home
* Candles — lighting their path
* Photos & mementos — honoring those we love
This altar is presented by the TalaVera Instituto De Las Artes Mexicanas, with the support of the NAHCC in Foundation and the Nashville Public Library - Green Hills — a tribute to heritage, art, and community. ✨
