Here is my tribe I was born into: Janie Nichols, my great-great grandmother (Big Mama); Annie Turner, my great grandmother (Murdear); Doretha Dunlap Jackson, my grandmother who I called Mother; and Dr. Joeretha Jackson Stringer, my mom! These wise women are known to many beyond Mississippi. They wore many hats in our family and in the community; nurturer, leader, quilter, activist, caregiver, historian, educator, author, and publisher to name a few. BUT, they will always be Big Mama, Murdear, Mother and Mom to me. Honoring the women who laid the foundation for while celebrating all women during !
