Thank you to all of our neighbors for showing up and making this morning’s Summer Solstice Meetup such a fun success! Belmont-Hillsboro Neighbors is happy to support the efforts of the Second Sunday Gardeners year-round and with events like today’s. It was wonderful to see so many new faces and catch up with old friends

The Second Sunday Gardeners are a treasure and have created a truly magical place in Portland Park, a Metro Park. It is an urban oasis for our precious pollinators, created by and for the community to enjoy. Maureen May, you are a gift to our neighborhood as is everyone who has given of their time and gardening talents to this project; miriam.mimms Quin Evans Segall and so many others.

Tag yourself in the comments and let us know how you’ve been a part of bringing this once-underutilized patch of half-grown grass to its current glory!

If you’d like to learn more about getting involved with the Second Sunday Gardeners or how to support their efforts, email [email protected] and/or donate funds for maintenance at the link in our bio.

See you in the park!

Belmont-Hillsboro Neighbors is proud to support the work of the Second Sunday Gardeners in the Portland Pollinator Park. SSG organizer, Maureen May, will be on hand June 20th at the BHN Summer Solstice event to give tours of the park and to lead a nature-themed craft for our neighborhood kids!

Neighbors like Maureen are a treasure and there is so much to be learned from her, husband Bill Harkey and all of the gardeners who pour their time, plant passion and skills into our neighborhood gardens, parks and public spaces. Have you ever passed by the Sweetbriar Herb Curb and grabbed a sprig or two to take home? Thank Maureen and Bill!

🌳 Summer Solstice, June 20th, 9AM-11:30 AM 🌳

Join Belmont Hillsboro Neighbors and the Second Sunday Gardeners next weekend at Portland Park Pollinator Garden for a morning of nature themed activities and community fun for the whole family.

Be among the first to see this new sign for Portland Park Pollinator Garden’s Soft Landings area, a native planting designed to support pollinators, birds, fireflies, and other wildlife while promoting healthy trees and biodiversity. The new sign was created by BHN neighbor, Susie Campion.
The Second Sunday Gardeners will be showing neighbors how to plant beneficial herbs, flowers, and plants that help our neighborhood become more sustainable and biodiverse.

BHN neighbor and arborist, Tom Solinsky, will be on hand to talk with neighbors about trees. Tom will help you with what and where to plant and how to help our trees recover from the ice storm. Celebrate the start of summer and learn how native habitats help our local eco system thrive.
