Engineers Without Borders - Nashville Professionals Chapter

Engineers Without Borders - Nashville Professionals Chapter Our chapter has been fortunate enough to obtain approval (as of October, 2012) to begin a multi-year program in the Ulpan Valley, Guatemala.

Engineers Without Borders - Nashville (EWB-Nashville) is a non-profit humanitarian organization established to partner with developing communities worldwide in order to improve their quality of life. In shallow, muddy pools, found on one of the many verdant mountainsides of the Ulpan Valley in Guatemala, women wash their families’ clothing and dishes in the same water that they collect for drinkin

g and cooking, and carry it on their shoulders, back to their homes, often miles away. The pools, while fed from a mountain spring, become polluted with f***l bacteria from people and animals, causing this area to have one of the highest death rates from water-bourne diseases in the Western Hemisphere. The dangerous work of hiking the hillsides for water several times a day keeps women and children from being educated, and is a constant drain on energy and resources that could be used towards community enrichment and development.
