Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee and News 2 WKRN-TV are joining forces once again for the News 2 Food 2 Families School Food Drive!

When the school year starts, children living with food insecurity have already fallen behind their classmates. They're more likely to struggle concentrating in class, get sick more often, and have a harder time excelling academically.

Last year, 30 local schools joined together to help change that, providing more than 200,000 meals to neighbors in need. We're hoping for an even bigger impact this year!

A huge thank you to News 2 WKRN-TV for over 40 years of supporting food drives that benefit Second Harvest, and for their continued dedication through News 2 Food 2 Families. If you'd like to participate, click the link below to learn more. https://bit.ly/45tiAI0

Across Middle Tennessee, many older adults are forced to choose between paying for food, medicine, and other essentials, often on a fixed income that just doesn't stretch far enough.

At Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee, we're working to change that. Through the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP), income eligible older adults 60 and older receive a monthly food box, reaching nearly 2,000 neighbors each month. For older adults who can't leave home, we bring food directly to independent living facilities and homebound individuals across our service area.

Our Older Adult Nutrition Program extends that reach even further, providing prepackaged nourish boxes each month to seniors experiencing food insecurity across Middle and West Tennessee. Delivered in partnership with senior centers and Partner Agencies, the program also includes frozen tray packs and shelf-stable foods, helping ensure older adults have consistent access to the nutrition they need.

Through these programs, we are working to help nourish our older adult neighbors in Middle and West Tennessee.

Did you know a single visit to one of our Neighbor Care Pantries can provide more than food?

For neighbors facing a moment of urgent need, our Neighbor Care Pantry Program provides two to three days of staple food, sized to household need, through 5 Partner sites across Davidson County.

But it doesn't stop there. Neighbor Care Pantries also connect neighbors with healthcare, dental care, and diaper resources, all in one visit. It's one stop that can meet several needs at once, because having access to food makes everything else possible.

Today is the last day to DOUBLE your impact and go the extra mile for our neighbors.

Rising fuel prices are putting real pressure on our ability to deliver food across the region, and on how much food we can afford to purchase in the first place. Our trucks travel 23,352 miles every week just to reach neighbors across Middle and West Tennessee, and right now, a full tank of diesel costs nearly $300.

Every mile matters. A group of generous donors is matching all gifts up to $20,000 until MIDNIGHT tonight - meaning every $1 = 8 MEALS. Double your gift today at the link below and make twice the impact for neighbors all across Middle and West Tennessee!

After school ends, kids are still in need of nourishing food. That's why Second Harvest runs Kids Cafe and the At-Risk Afterschool Meal Program, providing free meals, snacks, and nutrition education to kids living with food insecurity through community programs during the school year and summer. For kids like Michael and Chanel, it helps them feel their best even when school is out. Together, these programs served 118,342 meals and snacks last year to kids across Middle and West Tennessee who don't have dinner waiting at home.

Meet Kenny, one of our dedicated delivery drivers putting your generosity into motion, one mile and one meal at a time.

He makes 33 deliveries a week, and he knows exactly what each mile takes and what each meal means to the neighbors waiting on the other end.

Here's what one day on Kenny's route looks like:

Gallatin Cares, Sumner County, TN: 8,333 meals provided

Trousdale Community Help Center, Trousdale County, TN: 5,833 meals provided

Pickett County Food Bank, Pickett County, TN: 416 meals provided

That's 133 miles traveled and 14,582 neighbors nourished.

Your support keeps nutritious food moving across our community, but now your generosity can go even further. Any one-time gift you make from today until August 14 will be doubled, helping fuel our journey to nourishing our neighbors. Donate today at the link. https://bit.ly/3RGcDnX
