Mad Hatter 2026 is already breaking records, and we have our incredible community to thank. 🦋🐆🌿🌹

From our generous sponsors and dedicated event chairs to our auction chairs, donors, volunteers, and supporters, this event would not be possible without the people who continue to show up for SAC and the survivors we serve.

Whether you're a parent, educator, coach, mentor, or someone heading to college this fall, have an honest conversation about consent, boundaries, respect, peer support, and safe s*x prior to move-in day. Too often, we've prepared students by telling them what not to do instead of teaching them how to build healthy relationships. Swipe through and share to help someone start the conversation.

*****

A safer Tennessee is one where every person can walk into a room knowing they won't be met with unwanted s*xual comments, advances, or harassment. Join SAC's Virtual Sexual Assault 101 Open Public Training on Wednesday, August 12th from 12-1:00 CST to learn about the realities of s*xual violence, the impact of trauma, and how each of us can help create a safe Tennessee.

A new grand jury report is shining light on something we've been monitoring closely: the backlog of s*xual assault kits at MNPD's Crime Lab. Here's what's true... delays have real consequences for survivors seeking justice. And here's what's also true... progress is happening. MNPD reports that roughly 80% of the 885 backlogged kits are now in testing, with funding in place to clear the rest.

Our CEO, Rachel Freeman, called it meaningful progress for survivors, while being clear there's still more work ahead. Every kit represents a survivor who came forward. Every kit tested is a step toward the answers, accountability, and healing they deserve. We'll keep advocating until the backlog is gone, because survivors deserve timely justice.

Our first blog post just went live! The Hope Standard is SAC's new home for honest conversations about s*xual violence, prevention, and hope... and we're kicking things off with a piece close to our mission.

"Before They Leave Home: What the Red Zone Is Really Telling Us," co-authored by our CEO Rachel Freeman, LCSW, and Community Relations Manager Atarah A.M. Smith, MS, looks at the "Red Zone," the high-risk window that opens for college students each fall, and why real prevention starts long before move-in day. This is a conversation for parents, educators, and communities.

This spring, Vanderbilt College of Arts & Science students, Taliyah Bradberry and Quinn Fitzpatrick, curated a "What Were You Wearing?" exhibition inside SAC... crafting a powerful reminder that someone's clothing is never a justification for assault.

Grateful to these students and their faculty mentors for using art to stand with survivors and combat victim blaming. 💜
