Current TASP President: Lydia Newsom

Lydia Newsom has been in education since 1992, having attended both University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and Middle Tennessee State University. She was a past regional representative for TASP. She was an elementary teacher for eight years at Hillsboro Elementary School in Hillsboro, TN (Coffee County). She served the rural districts as a School Psychologist in Pulaski (Giles County) and Lewisburg (Marshall County). She also served Franklin Special School District 5 years (Williamson County) and then as a Lead School Psychologist in Metro Nashville Public Schools.

Lydia is married to Mark Newsom, has one son, Jacob (31), and has one spoiled dog, Scout. Lydia enjoys giving back to our community of psychologists, gardening, reading books, social gatherings, live music, traveling, and family time

"Student Research Presentations

TASP announces a call for student research presentations for the 2026 Fall Conference, to be held in person on November 13, 2026.

Proposals and presentations will be reviewed and considered for inclusion in the conference if they are received by 11:59 P.M. (CST) on October 3, 2026.

The poster session will allow presenters and attendees to engage in extended discussions regarding the author’s presentation that is in an illustrated format. All posters should be presented in APA format.

Awards will be given for 1st and 2nd place posters, as judged by TASP members at the conference.

Please email submissions to both [email protected] and [email protected]."

This is open to all graduate students, not just those in TN programs 🙂

Dr. Harman will be presenting the following session:

Same Work, Higher Cost: Executive Functioning, Cognitive Fatigue, and School-Based Intervention for Pediatric Cancer Survivors* is a 2-hour interactive presentation designed for school psychologists. The session focuses on the neurocognitive late effects experienced by pediatric cancer survivors, particularly difficulties with processing speed, working memory, executive functioning, and cognitive endurance that are often mistaken for poor effort or lack of motivation.

✨️ We are excited to announce that this year's fall conference keynote speaker will be Dr. Jason A. Pedersen, PhD, NCSP ✨️

Jason A. Pedersen, PhD, NCSP, currently serves as President of the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) and is a nationally recognized leader in school psychology whose work focuses on systems-level design, infrastructure coherence, and sustainable implementation across local, state, and national contexts. He is also the Founder and Principal of Pedersen Education Strategy Consulting, where he advises schools, districts, and state agencies on building coherent, high-functioning educational systems.

Dr. Pedersen has held numerous leadership roles at both the state and national levels, with a consistent focus on shaping policy, building organizational capacity, and advancing scalable, system-wide solutions. He is co-author of The Data-Driven School: Collaborating to Improve Student Outcomes, and has contributed extensively to Best Practices in School Psychology. In recognition of his contributions to the field of school psychology, he has received numerous national and state level awards, including being named NASP’s 2023 School Psychologist of the Year.

He is widely known for helping education systems move from fragmented, initiative-driven practices to integrated, prevention-focused models. His work spans large-scale implementation of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), social-emotional learning (SEL), and trauma-informed practices, with an emphasis on aligning governance, data systems, scheduling, and staffing to ensure long-term sustainability.

The TASP 2026 Fall Conference will be held in Memphis, TN on November 12th and 13th, 2026.

The conference this year is during National School Psychology Week (NSPW) so come celebrate how amazing you are at your job with your fellow school psychologists 🎉
