We don’t endorse candidates but we do endorse you asking the hard questions! We need elected officials that are willing the prioritize a future for agriculture and to act to build that future. Ask this question and share their answers with your neighbors.

On September 21st and 22nd, we came together, thanks to organizers at the Highlander Folk School Library in Monteagle, with facilitators from the Wisconsin Farmers Union and the Highlander Research Education Center and stakeholders from across the state to learn more about how past farmers organized and created a network between black and white farmers across the South and how we can model their efforts moving forward.
Thank you to our partners and the farmers who came out to be part of this work!

On September 13th, we gathered at Love Equals Farm in Altamont to learn from Cyndi and Savannah Whitman about their farm stand, growing lettuce for restaurants, crop planning, online sales platforms, record keeping and more of the nuts and bolts of operating a market garden and farm stand! We also enjoyed a farm-fresh lunch and social time in the shade. Thank you to Love Equals Farm, Cyndi and Savannah for sharing their knowledge and vision for the Love Equals Farm operation!

We had a great time at Sequatchie Cove Farm on Saturday discussing land access, enjoying a farm-fresh (always delicious) potluck, and swimming in the river. Thank you to our presenters Madison Baldwin, Sydney Copeland Sun Scope Farm & Gardens, and Kelsey Keener Kelsey Keener , to all who came out to contribute to the discussion, and to the TN Aquarium Conservation Institute TNACI and Sequatchie Cove Farm for partnering and hosting. During the event, our presenters shared their knowledge on farmland loss and conservation, alternative land access strategies, and inter generational farmland management.

We recognize that there is much work to be done to protect and help get farmland into the hands of next generation farmers, and we hope to keep this discussion going within our SeTNYF community. Are you seeking farmland or have farmland to share? Or would you like to hear about the resources discussed at this event? Let us know by sending us a message or emailing [email protected].

SeTNYF August gathering!! Join us for an educational discussion on farmland access and preservation, a potluck lunch, and then a swim in the Little Sequatchie River to cool down! The discussion will focus on farmland loss in Tennessee, conservation, alternative land arrangements, and inter-generationally managed land. All are welcome to come and learn and we especially encourage those who are seeking land or those who have land available to attend.

This event is being hosted by the Southeast TN Young Farmers in partnership with the Tennessee Aquarium Conservation Institute, so if you are interested in learning more about the Rivers to Ridges project and how you might find support in implementing land management practices that conserve natural resources and protect aquatic habitats, this is a great opportunity to connect with the team.
