Have you ever paused during a military funeral, a Memorial Day service, or a scouting event and wondered why the American Flag is meticulously folded into a precise triangle?
It’s not just a clever space-saving technique to make it fit into a display case. The shape and the process carry deep historical meaning.
🇺🇸 The Shape: A Nod to 1776
When the flag is completely tucked in, it takes on the exact shape of a tri-cornered (or cocked) hat. This is a direct, silent tribute to the Continental Army soldiers who fought under General George Washington and the early patriots who won America's independence during the Revolutionary War.
⭐ Vanishing into the Night
The folding process requires exactly 13 folds (coincidentally matching the original 13 colonies). As the team moves down the fabric, the vibrant red and white stripes are completely tucked away into the blue field. This symbolizes the transition of daylight vanishing into the darkness of night, leaving only a striking field of blue and bright white stars facing upward.
While the U.S. Flag Code doesn't legally mandate this specific fold for everyday storage, it has become a sacred ritual used by our Armed Forces and families across the nation to show maximum respect for the lives, sacrifices, and history behind Old Glory.
Drop a 🇺🇸 if you are proud of what this flag stands for!

This , we remember the service members who gave everything — not just for our country, but for the people beside them, the families they loved, and the future they believed in.

We wear a simple flower, but each poppy tells a story of courage, of service, and of a promise we must never forget.

So today, wear it with intention, remember their stories, and help us ensure they are never forgotten.

🏍️ Thursday Night Ride Recap! 🏍️
We had an absolute blast on our Thursday Night Ride this week! The weather cleared up, the roads were smooth, and the company was even better.
We knocked out a solid 31-mile loop down through Tyngsborough, Dunstable, Pepperell, and Hollis before heading back up. About halfway through, we pulled over for a great break—just catching up, having a good conversation, and enjoying the evening before hitting the road to finish out the run.
A huge shoutout and Chapter 3 welcome to Paul from ALR Chapter 113 over in Massachusetts (Hoodie’s brother!), who crossed the state line to log those miles with us tonight. Great having you in the pack, brother—hope to see you on many more!
Thanks to everyone who came out, kept the rubber side down, and made it a great mid-week run.
Keep an eye on the page for next week’s route and details. Ride safe, everyone! 🦅🇺🇸

🏍️ What Goes on Behind the Scenes at ALR Chapter 3? 🏍️
Ever wonder what your American Legion Riders are discussing at our monthly chapter meetings? It’s not just about planning our next Sunday cruise (though we do plenty of that!). Here is a quick look at what we tackle every month to keep our engines running and our community supported:
📋 Roll Call & Leadership Updates: We track our active crew, welcome new guests, and hear updates from our Director, Assistant Director, and officers on regional and state-level veteran initiatives.
📅 Ride & Event Coordination: From local Bike Nights and joint safety rides to major community milestones—like the upcoming Memorial Day Parade and our regional Plaque Rides—we map out our calendar to maximize our visibility and support.
💰 Financial & Property Management: We review our budgets line-by-line. Whether we are managing the proceeds from our successful monthly Meat Raffles, investing in new tech to make digital donations easier, or purchasing heavy-duty, fire-retardant event gear, every dollar is accounted for to support our mission.
🎓 Community & Veteran Support: We manage our flagship programs, like our high school essay scholarships. We are constantly reviewing rubrics and planning how to encourage local students to connect with, interview, and honor area veterans.
🛠️ Training & PR: We discuss social media growth, coordinate apparel/swag orders, and plan safety and bike-maneuvering training for our routine Thursday night rides so our skills stay sharp on the road.
🤝 Sick Call & Fellowship: Most importantly, we check in on our members and families, offering support, prayers, and relief to any riders going through a tough time.
We are a dedicated crew working hard to support veterans, their families, and the Nashua community—one meeting, one event, and one ride at a time.
Want to see what we're all about in person? Join us on an upcoming ride or say hello at our next chapter event!
