Congratulations, Ayden Abreu, one of four Warrior Homes of Collier scholarship recipients, each receiving $5,000 toward the 2026/27 school year.

Ayden's grandfather enlisted in the Marine Corps at 16 after fleeing Cuba, served in Vietnam, and later trained new Marines as a Drill Instructor at Parris Island. His father served as an Army combat engineer before spending 27 years as a Miami-Dade police officer. Now pursuing a Second Lieutenant commission through Army ROTC at Embry-Riddle, Ayden is studying aeronautics with hopes of flying in special operations.

In his words, this scholarship "took a lot of weight off my shoulders" and let him focus on his education, ROTC standing, and work.

The scholarship program reflects our mission of helping veterans and their families through housing, mental health support, and education, and is open to veterans and family members pursuing undergraduate or graduate coursework, vocational training, or certificate programs.

Congratulations, Ayden!

Congratulations, Aaron Abreu, one of four Warrior Homes of Collier scholarship recipients, each receiving $5,000 toward the 2026/27 school year.

A Lely High School graduate, Aaron is studying Aviation Business Administration at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University while completing Army ROTC, with plans to commission as a Second Lieutenant. His father served in the Army Reserves before spending 20 years as a Miami-Dade police officer, and his grandfather earned the Purple Heart as a Marine in Vietnam.

This scholarship means fewer loans, and one less thing standing between Aaron and the degree he is working toward.

The scholarship program reflects our mission of helping veterans and their families through housing, mental health support, and education, and is open to veterans and family members pursuing undergraduate or graduate coursework, vocational training, or certificate programs.

Congratulations, Aaron!

Congratulations, Loren Lichi, one of four Warrior Homes of Collier scholarship recipients, each receiving $5,000 toward the 2026/27 school year.

Loren graduated from Naples High School this past May and is headed to the University of South Florida to study business management. Her father served as a psychiatrist with the 748th Combat Stress Control Hospital during Operation Iraqi Freedom, caring for the emotional and psychological well-being of his fellow soldiers overseas.

In her words: "Your generosity has lifted an immense weight off our shoulders, and it is truly humbling to know that my hard work has been recognized by such a supportive organization."

The scholarship program reflects our mission of helping veterans and their families through housing, mental health support, and education, and is open to veterans and family members pursuing undergraduate or graduate coursework, vocational training, or certificate programs.

Congratulations, Loren! We are proud to help you get there.

Congratulations, Adam Stanbro, one of four Warrior Homes of Collier scholarship recipients, each receiving $5,000 toward the 2026/27 school year.

Adam served in the U.S. Army from 1992 to 1994, following six uncles, both grandfathers, and his father and stepfather into service. He is now studying social work at Florida Gulf Coast University and plans to bring that degree back to the Naples community that helped him flourish.

In his words: "Thank you for believing in me. Thank you for this blessing. I will not let you down."

The scholarship program reflects our mission of helping veterans and their families through housing, mental health support, and education, and is open to veterans and family members pursuing undergraduate or graduate coursework, vocational training, or certificate programs.

Adam also started a year-long internship this week at Warrior Homes of Collier. Congratulations, Adam!

Before there was a single house, there was one veteran who refused to look away. ๐Ÿ’™

Dale A. Mullin returned from Vietnam in 1968 and moved to Naples in 2002 for a quiet retirement. In 2011, watching the news, he wondered why the veterans coming home with devastating, and often invisible wounds weren't getting the same attention. "I didn't want to see another generation of veterans returning home and just being forgotten," he says.

So he did something about it. A golf fundraiser at LaPlaya, which has become an annual event. Roundtables with the Hunger & Homeless Coalition, David Lawrence Centers, Veterans Treatment Court, the Collier County Sheriff's Office, and St. Matthew's House. In July 2019, 68 volunteers fanned out across the county and counted 47 homeless veterans living in the shadows.

Alpha House opened in 2020. Bravo followed in 2021. Then Charlie. Then Delta. Then Echo and Foxtrot. The Zulu Project is next; once renovations are complete, it will add another 20 beds.

Our story doesn't end here. We have housed homeless veterans; now we must work to keep them housed.

Saving Lives One Veteran at a Time.

HOUSED WITH DIGNITY

Dignity is a key that belongs to you. It is a door that locks, a bed that is yours, and an address you can put on a job application.

At Warrior Homes, housing a veteran is the beginning of the work, not the end of it.

Every veteran who moves into one of our homes has access to wraparound veteran support services, professional case management, mental health support, and help navigating their VA benefits.

That is why the housing holds.

Since opening our first home in 2020, together with our community partners, we have provided stable housing for 158 veterans, and veteran homelessness in Collier County has dropped 88%.

They served our country; now we can serve them.

๐Ÿ’œ August 7 Is National Purple Heart Day

In 1782, General George Washington created the Badge of Military Merit, a purple silk heart awarded for extraordinary bravery. He presented three.

The award was revived in 1932 as the Purple Heart we know today, and since then nearly 1.8 million have been awarded to American service members wounded or killed in action.

No one is nominated for this medal. It is earned in the moment a service member is wounded defending this country.

Purple Heart Day has been observed since 2014, not as a celebration, but as a day to remember what was asked of these men and women, and of the families who carried that weight at home.

Today, Warrior Homes of Collier honors every Purple Heart recipient.

"Warrior Homes always has our backs."

One of our veteran residents shared that with us recently, and it captures exactly what our work is about.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ No Veteran left behind
๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Provide stable and supportive housing
๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Our Veteran Support Services (VSS) program works to keep our veterans housed by providing wrap-around services

Our mission is ongoing, and yes, we will always have our veterans' backs.

Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta, Echo, Foxtrot, Zulu.

You've heard this alphabet before, maybe from a movie, maybe from a relative who served. In 1802, navigator Nathaniel Bowditch gave every time zone on the map its own letter. In 1956, NATO built a phonetic alphabet around those same letters, tested across 31 nationalities, so a message could be understood clearly no matter the accent or the static on the radio.

ONE ALPHABET. EVERY BRANCH. NO ONE LEFT BEHIND.

That's why we named our homes the same way: Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Delta, Echo, Foxtrot House, and The Zulu Project. Same code service members have trusted for generations, now naming the places where they find stable and supportive housing.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ 158 veterans have found stable housing through these homes since Alpha House opened in 2020
๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ 95 cents of every dollar raised goes straight to that work.
