AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM YOUR FELLOW VERONAWALK NEIGHBOR & BOARD CANDIDATE MIKE RIZZO
Since announcing my candidacy in early January, I have gathered input from many homeowners and researched further. Here are my findings.
Homeowners' associations (HOAs) can foster community pride, but they may also cause frustration among residents, especially regarding the board of directors. Here are some common sources of this frustration:
1. Lack of Communication: Insufficient communication from the board, such as updates on community issues, decisions made, or policy changes, can frustrate residents.
2. Transparency Issues: A lack of transparency about decision-making processes or financial matters can lead to distrust and resentment.
3. Perceived Favoritism: Residents may perceive that the board shows favoritism to certain homeowners, allowing them to bypass rules or receive preferential treatment.
4. Unclear Rules and Regulations: Vague or inconsistent enforcement of rules can cause confusion and feelings of unfairness among residents.
5. High Fees and Assessments: Increases in HOA dues or special assessments without adequate justification or communication can lead to dissatisfaction, especially if improvements are not evident.
6. Poor Management of Common Areas: Frustration may a rise if common areas are not well-maintained, affecting property values and community aesthetics.
7. Lack of Response to Complaints: A lack of prompt and effective response to residents' concerns or complaints can lead to feelings of neglect.
8. Ineffective or Unqualified Board Members: Frustration may occur if board members lack the necessary skills, experience, or willingness to manage the community effectively.
9. Conflicts of Interest: Distrust and frustration can result if board members have personal interests conflicting with their responsibilities to the community.
10. Limited Opportunities for Resident Input: Insufficient opportunities for resident input or participation in decision-making processes can cause residents to feel sidelined.
11. Slow Response to Issues: Delays in addressing maintenance issues, safety concerns, or other community problems can lead to frustration and a sense of neglect.
12. Inflexibility in Rules: Some residents may feel that the board is too rigid in enforcing rules without reasonable exceptions or considering individual circumstances.
13. Disagreements over Community Projects: Tension may arise over proposed improvements or projects if they are seen as unnecessary or costly.
14. Poor Financial Management: Concerns about spending, budgeting, or financial planning can lead to frustration and mistrust.
15. Lack of Community Engagement: A lack of fostering a sense of community or engagement can lead to feelings of isolation and dissatisfaction.
If elected, I aim to address these issues through improved communication, transparency, and resident involvement. This can help reduce frustrations and build a more harmonious community.
