Naperville's swimming community is at a crossroads. With recent pool closures, the need for more indoor aquatics is clear. However, the proposed 8-lane, 25-yard lap pool for the new activity center is a band-aid solution that fails to meet our community's long-term needs.
An 8-lane pool doesn't solve the access problem for our competitive swimmers, high school teams, and master's swimmers. It's simply not large enough to host meaningful meets or provide adequate training space for our growing, passionate swim community.
A 50-meter pool can be configured as:
- Two separate 25-yard pools for simultaneous practices and programs.
- A full 50-meter course for elite training and large-scale competitions.
- It would attract regional meets, bringing significant economic benefits to our local businesses.

Naperville residents have expressed strong interest in more indoor aquatics, particularly with the recent closures of local indoor pools, which has decreased access to swimming. The Park District is considering three pools for the proposed indoor community activity center: a lap pool with 8 lanes; an activity pool with a water slide, spray features and 3 additional lap lanes; and a warm-water therapy pool – all of which would support a wide range of programs for all ages and abilities.
