🇬🇧 House of Stuart - enjoying time together ❤️

Five of our members enjoyed a lovely lunch together at Gia Mia in downtown Naperville yesterday- the first outing organised by newly appointed Social Secretary, Alex. 🥂

As we continue to grow (welcoming 8 new members in 8 months!), we felt the time was right to add a little structure to the chapter. We’re delighted to now have our Regent, Social Secretary and Communications Secretary to help us stay organized, connected and making the most of chapter life.

Alex is already planning our next gathering - an early evening one, recognizing many of our members balance DBE with busy family/working lives.

A big thank you to Alex for this. 🇬🇧✨

🇬🇧🍻 We swapped our usual chapter meeting venue for a visit to The Can Bar last night — the home of our upcoming British Pub Social Evening! 🍻🇬🇧

We were delighted to welcome Jess, who came along to try us out… and decided to join as our 20th member! 🥳💙

Much of our meeting was spent working through the details - posters, raffle baskets, nibbles and all the little things that will make it a fun British-themed pub night in support of our charities (we may have squeezed in a little chit-chat too 🤭).

House of Stuart Regent, Sherry, visited a number of Chicago war graves over the Memorial Day weekend ❤️🇺🇸

🇬🇧🇺🇸The British and Commonwealth Remembrance Project lead volunteers for the pictured servicemen (Mandy for Kenneth Seastrom & Nicky for Malcolm Cotton Brown) visited their graves to clean and tidy their tombstones and leave US flags, according local custom. 🇬🇧🇺🇸

We opened our chapter meeting Monday with a game of “Spot the Baby” using childhood photos brought in by members - prizes ranged from British crisps to tinned treasures 😄

We discovered two important things:

1️⃣ We are surprisingly bad at recognising each other as babies 👶
2️⃣ People become VERY competitive when mushy peas and rice pudding are prizes 🇬🇧

We also celebrated two birthdays 🎂 before getting down to business:

✨ Another $300 raised through sales of our America 250 Ornaments
✨ Memorial Day visits
✨ Appointment of our new Social Secretary
✨ Discussed our big Autumn Event - a British Pub Social Evening in Naperville! 🇬🇧including :
🍸 Guided Gin Tasting
🧠 British Pub Quiz
🎟 Raffle fun
🤝 An evening to meet fellow Brits and Anglophiles in the area

More details soon… and yes, there will be British nibbles involved!

House of Stuart met in our new home last night after outgrowing our old venue!

We presented April and Debbie with their pins, and were delighted to have Linda back after she spent winter out of state. Even with six members away, we had a great turnout and enjoyed sharing a bite to eat together.

We also celebrated our most successful fundraising period since launching our 3D printed items in 2024: $808 raised in just one month! 🎉

Welcome to our page 🙂

House of Stuart is the Naperville Chapter of Daughters of the British Empire (DBE). The Chapter, restarted, after a period of dormancy , in 2022 but our National Organisation has been around for over a century.

Our Chapter has members in Aurora, Lisle, Oswego, Hinsdale, Downers Grove and Naperville but our territory covers many more surrounding towns and villages.

Our aims are fun, friendship and fundraising (for two DBE retirement homes and local charities we choose).

We have monthly chapter meetings in Room 305 Community UMC but additionally share social and educational activities.

Do you have links to the UK or any Commonwealth Nation (through birth, marriage or heritage)?
Would you like to attend our next meeting to see what we do?

Use the message button to get in touch, we ‘d love to meet you 🙂

A busy time for House of Stuart members. Last Saturday 7 of us joined members from across Illinois for the state ACM and then Monday we had our monthly Chapter meeting.

At the ACM the new state board was installed and one of our new members was pinned (Claudia), as she couldn’t make Monday’s chapter meeting. When the chapter met, another new member (Laura) was pinned . Two more will be pinned next meeting too! 🤗
