Our annual fundraiser this past week. We appreciated having Lions from Saugus, Shoe City and Wyoma in attendance. Oh yeah, and we returned the “borrowed gavel” to Mike Murphy, Treasurer of the Saugus Lions.

Another fun and crazy evening at our annual Nahant Lions 🦁 Yankee Swap 🎁. We welcomed our newest member Rena Demeo, inducted by Zone Chair Tony Speziale (Saugus) and sponsored by Joy Doherty. Steve Switzer emceed the evening☝🏻. Mary Miner hit the jackpot with #1. She waited patiently as everyone opened their gifts, and in the end she took back the one she wanted! Mark and Joyce ended up with the his/her aprons AGAIN, but quickly passed them back to Al Eaton to take home for another year.

We wrapped up our Lions year with an evening of food, fun and awards at the Dory Club. We had the privilege of having a few guests who were wiling to make the drive all the way to Nahant! DG Mark Alexander (Dunstable-Tyngsboro) presented Chevron Awards to Charles Schepens (15 years), Mark S Reenstierna (20 years) and Steven Switzer (30 years) to commemorate their years of service. PDG and incoming DG Marcel Plouffe (Lowell) and PDG Dave O’Brien (Methuen) also joined us. Al Eaton presented the Melvin Jones Fellowship to our very own Nahant Lion Steven Switzer. This is the highest award given by LCIF to an individual for their dedicated humanitarian services. Congrats to you, Steven!

Nahant Lions Club presented the 31st Annual Dr. Charles L. Schepens Lifetime Achievement in Lionism Award to Sharon and PDG Tony Pecci of the Haverhill Lions Club. What a great gathering of Lions from Amesbury, Dunstable-Tyngsborough, Haverhill, Lowell, Lynn, Methuen, Nahant, Newburyport, Peabody, Saugus, Shoe City and Wyoma. Our guest speaker Dr. Petr Baranov of the Schepens Eye Research Institute of Mass Eye and Ear spoke about his lab spearheading the transplantation of stemcell derived retinal ganglion cells in animal models of glaucoma. We thank Brett Henry of Nahant for providing us with a delicious feast; and we thank the servers and bartender who kept us well nourished.
