I have not been able to find the right words and there will never be a “right” time to share this.
I created this page to bring awareness to help others, and pray that nobody will have to ever go through this, to hopefully save another angel from being taken much to soon, due to carelessness or ignorance. The temperature was 85 degrees outside, it was approx. 140 degrees inside that vehicle when it reached its peak temperature. Kyler had an internal temperature of 107 degrees even after being inside the ER for 30-45 minutes.
On September 1, 2022, our family’s lives changed forever. That day, my beautiful grandson, Kyler, lost his life after being left in a car for several hours. It was a heartbreaking accident — one that no one ever expected or intended.
Because of that tragic mistake, my son — who was just 19 at the time — was later sentenced to prison. In one devastating day, I lost both my grandson and my son.
I share this not to place blame, not for pitty, but to bring understanding and awareness. Hot car tragedies don’t just happen to “bad” or careless people — they can happen to anyone, even loving and responsible families who simply get distracted.
Through Kyler’s Promise, I hope to honor Kyler’s memory and use our family’s pain to help prevent other children from losing their lives this way. My prayer is that no other family will have to live with the kind of loss we live with every day.
Please help me share Kyler’s story and remind others: always check the backseat. One reminder can save a life. 💙
My son was wrong, he made a mistake, he was sentenced to 15-life after he told police that he left Kyler in a pac-n-play and found him unconscious, later admitting that he left his son Kyler 14 months old in the car on purpose as to not disturb he and his wifes roommate but that he never excepted to find him dead. This set the tone moving forward, they twisted his words and made him out to be a monster, he and the mother had done this countless times in the past (we later found out) my son was given a public defender, no jury of his peers, no family or loved ones there for love and support, as he and his wife went to visit his wifes family that summer never to return again. I say all of this to say my son was wrong and deserves to be where he is, but not for life, not 1100 miles away, his family myself, his dad, grandparents, friends, a younger brother and sister, loved ones of all kinds are the ones paying the price. If anyone has questions or wants to have an opinion I am open to talk.
