Springfield, Illinois was again our destination this weekend -- starting with a visit and tour of the Illinois State capitol. And they did a really nice job telling the Scouts about the main legislative building out in the capital.

Three teams from Clinton Scouting competed in the annual ?Scouting America WD Boyce First Aid Rally held in Peoria. The girls' troop took first place for our district in the beginner contingent. The boys and girls in the Family troop took a 3rd place in the beginner contingent while the older, more experience Scouts took third place in the advanced class. The volunteers for the day included a few local Scouts and Scout Leaders who were specially prepped for he day with fake wounds, bruising and more ghastly looks. All the create a bit of reality for the Scouts who had to evaluate the situations and then find the appropriate handling for that emergency.

Eagle Scout. One who has made the journey that any youth can make; a journey for values, for character, for leadership abilities, for things most of today's youth can't fully understand and do. Noah Kilson became one of those few, those special kids. Yesterday was his Eagle Board of Review, and he gained his wings. Yesterday was also the day I was able to sit in on an Eagle Board. I've been Scoutmaster to now four Eagles. To see the young man I have known for so many years, starting sometimes as a wild child who ticked off those around him, and seeing the transformation. It is simply inspiring. I wish I could see every youth accomplish this.

Here's the one thing: this is just a stop on his journey into the future. One that I know will hold much for him and much good for those around him, whether they know him or not. He will be one who makes a difference.

One thing he spoke of many times during his Board was his allegiance to the Scout Oath and Scout Law. There is no other youth group that delivers these values. And seeing them in action is amazing. Congratulations and well done to Noah -- there is no question parts of his journey were a struggle. A struggle brought on by those around him sometimes, other times by just plain life and other times by having to find his true self. But a struggle he conquered and won.

He is the first Eagle Scout to emerge for a troop that is now a Family Troop -- accepting both boys and girls in this journey. Our troop has been around since 1939 in Clinton, helping today's youth become tomorrow's leaders. It is phenomenal. And humbling to be a part of this.

Zander got a bit of a surprise tonight when his father brought him to another Pack's meeting up in Bloomington. The event was the annual Blue and Gold Banquet/Crossover for Pack 3905. He was awarded the "You Are The Best" award as a youth for his work with younger Scouts and Scouting overall. This is the second year it was presented, and was in honor of Rose Tyler Kunkes who passed away in 2023. She was a Cub Scout whose adventurous spirit and enthusiasm for Scouting could be seen by everyone all the time. Her parents have chosen to yearly honor a Scout Leader (Gary Ohler) and a youth.
