Norfolk Southern Railway is building a new car inspection facility on Old Lee Highway west of Tuscumbia. Called a Digital Train Inspection Portal, cameras at this location will relay images to a centralized server where AI will process the data to perceive any safety issues with the trains.

We've had some folks ask why it's so smoky in the Shoals today. Apparently it's from a controlled burn along the Alabama-Tennessee state line drifting in on a northerly wind. Nothing to worry about, it just smells like Fall!

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District, in partnership with the Tennessee Valley Authority, has closed the main lock chamber at Wilson Lock on the Tennessee River, following a recent inspection that revealed cracks in the lock gates.

NOTICE: The City of Florence Water Department has had a 16-inch water main damaged just East of Harris Drive in the Killen area. We will be shutting down this section of line for repairs at approximately 10:00 pm tonight (9/17). This area along with most of the service area in the East end of the county will be affected. Customers may experience low pressure or temporary interruption of service overnight. Our crews are working to restore normal pressures ASAP. Thank you for your patience and understanding regarding this matter. If assistance is needed, please call dispatch at 256.760.6490.

Due to a police investigation of shots fired in close proximity, W.C. Handy Early Childhood Development Center will be closed today. This incident was not school related and there are no injuries.

Florence Utilities Electricity Department crews are responding to a power outage affecting customers in the Cloverdale/Petersville area of Lauderdale County. The cause of the outage is unknown at this time. We appreciate your patience as our crews work as quickly and as safely as possible to restore power.

To report a power outage, call 256-764-4456. Do not call 911 to report a power outage. If you encounter a downed power line or damaged electrical equipment, stay away and treat them as if they are energized.

Please do not utilize social media as a method to report outages as our dispatchers do not monitor this page.

At approximately 1:00 this morning, the Lawrence County Sheriff's Office Swift Water Rescue Team was dispatched to assist the Courtland Fire Department in responding to a report of a stranded individual on the roof of his truck amidst rising floodwaters on County Road 150.

The Morgan County Rescue Squad's Swift Water Rescue Team were called to assist, deploying a rescue boat to the scene.

Swift Water Rescue Divers entered the fast-moving floodwaters and safely retrieved the stranded individual. The subject was transferred to a rescue boat and brought to safety without injury.

The operation took approximately 5 hours to complete.
