The Church in Egypt is the largest and oldest Christian community in the Middle East. We are committed to equipping the local Church with the Scriptures, working together with all Confessions to deepen and affirm Christians in their faith. Christian Egyptians face a constant barrage of criticism of the Bible from their context. The Bible Society of Egypt provides extensive support for thousands of
churches, ministries, and individuals in Egypt actively reaching out with the Good News, who depend on the Bible Society to provide Scripture resources and valuable programs for the whole family to engage personally with God’s Word. Our goal is to build confidence in the Bible, providing Scriptures to be excited about, and to share with friends. We believe that the continued and faithful efforts of committed Egyptians Christians in society will most effectively communicate the Gospel message, and the role of the Bible Society is to encourage and support each one. Making the Scriptures Available
Our network of 17 public bookshops throughout the country make the Bible easily accessible to everyone. Free home delivery, advertising, and public bookfairs reach many who would never access God's Word otherwise. Annual distribution is 1.5 - 2 million Scripture items, while free digital resources has increased online distribution significantly. Making the Scriptures Affordable
30% of Egyptians live below the poverty line… less than $1.30 per day. Scriptures products are generally sold below cost, and special subsidy provides high discounts and special offers. Free distributions within the Christian community serve students and children, orphans, prisoners, the blind, and the poor. While 7,000 local donors in Egypt partner with us to help make Bibles affordable to all, we are dependent upon other Bible Societies, churches, and individuals abroad to provide integral support with committed prayers and generous giving to ensure wide distribution and programs of engagement to reach millions of people in Egypt with God's Word each year
Making the Scriptures Understandable
The written Classical Arabic is a very difficult language and the Church uses a very old translation, so a large part of our work is to help make the Scriptures understandable to all. Along with our Study Bible and wide variety of inductive Bible Study aids, a vast array of Children’s materials, and audio/visual products, we are so excited to be working on a brand-new translation of the Bible into Colloquial Egyptian Arabic. This is the spoken dialect of more than 100 million people, and well known to most other Arabic speakers. Making the Scriptures Applicable
Not only do we distribute the Scriptures widely… we also want to make sure that these Bibles are being read and applied, through providing a wide range of programs, resources and trainings, festivals, competitions, activities, and study aids for all ages.
