The Murray High Leo Club completed its second full school year as a club at Murray High. Both years the club was awarded the top community service club within the Kentucky Lions District 43K. During the Lion service year, from July to June, the Murray High Leo Club completed 15 service projects, involving 1,123 service hours within the local Murray community.

On Thursday, August 13th, Lion AJ Cunha, one of the Murray Leo Club Advisors, presented the 2025-26 District 73K Lion Service Award to the incoming 2026-27 Leo Club Officers at Murray High School. This recognition is awarded to the Leo Club in Kentucky who completed the most community service hours during the Lion year. The club also increased its club membership and number of service projects completed during the 2025-26 school year.

“Our Lions and Leo Club are extremely thankful to have two very engaged high school club advisors in Haley Burchett and Sarah Hultman. Since our club charter, they have fostered a great environment for motivated students who see a need in the community and address that need in our community as a club. It’s been a privilege with my fellow Lions to watch the club grow and develop as leaders”, said AJ Cunha.

Murray High Leo Club was chartered in April 2023 sponsored by the Murray Lions Club.
LEO stands for Leadership, Experience, and Opportunity. Murray Lions Club has been fully engaged with the Leo Club since its charter, completing projects side-by-side with Leo’s, and establishing the Arvin Crafton Scholarship Fund awarding scholarships to graduating Murray High Leos.

Murray High Leo Club’s first meeting of the school year will be Tuesday, August 27th at 7:45 a.m. in Mrs. Burchett’s Room. Donuts will be provided by the Murray Lions Club.

You don't want to miss this week's meeting where Debbie Hixon, Family and Consumer Sciences Agent from the Calloway County Extension Office will fill us in on the many services that they offer. We meet at 6:30 at the Murray Woman's Club at 704 Vine Street. Our meetings are informal, visitors are encouraged, and refreshments will be served. Lions Donna Pursifull and AJ Cunha and Leo Kaiden Capps braved the heat to represent the Lions Club in welcoming MSU’s incoming class. It was wonderful to meet students who were Leos from several other states and to hear of student interest in service organizations. We Serve!

Did you know that the Murray Lions Club fills a number of the blessing boxes in our county? We also have one next to the Lions Club Skate Park. Thanks to Doug and Vicky Crafton for recently re-installing it and to Don Pursifull for a repair job on it in this hot weather.

The Murray Lions Club is off to a great start this year and are looking forward to the many ways we can serve this area in the coming year. At this week's meeting, we heard from Amber Sugg, Executive Director of Hope Calloway. We also had a visit from Wendy and Matt Tallis. Wendy is a past president of the Mayfield Lions Club and currently serves as our Lions District 43K Zone Chair. And we were also joined by officers and members from the Calloway County Leo's Club - they were recently recognized as the second best Leo's Club in our region and are already planning to try for first this year. We Serve!
