🌟 Help Revitalize 62966 continue to help revitalize Murphysboro! 🌟

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Revitalize 62966 is launching a capital campaign to raise $60,000 to resurface the retaining wall at 5th & Walnut Streets across from Walgreens.

You can support this community improvement project in two ways:

☕ Purchase a special commemorative mug of all things Murphysboro in crimson & corn by our very own Murphysboro artist - Christine DeShazo for $25. Every purchase helps support this mission.

Interested in the craft brew scene and/or helping the Murphysboro community?! Consider volunteering at the 2025 Big Muddy Monster Brew Festival on Saturday, October 4 at Riverside Park, Murphysboro, 12-4PM.

We have about 35 volunteer positions that need filled ASAP! Upon arrival you’ll receive your assignment, short instruction, and a free coveted Brew Festival t-shirt. Consider joining us for the SIU/SBDC Business Resource Meetup tomorrow on Tuesday, April 22, 3:30-5 p.m. at the 17th Street Annex. Murphysboro Main Street, Revitalize 62966 & 17th Street will be co-hosting this event in collaboration with the SBDC. RSVP today (to [email protected]) to attend this event!

Also, scheduled, later that evening is the Murphysboro SIU Chancellor’s Reception at Faye, following the business event, 6-8 p.m. We are hopeful to see a full house and a fantastic turn out! Revitalize 62966: Art in the Community committee is having a holiday print sale! All prints are all limited edition and signed. These five images of murals are on sale for $25 each. They are 11"x14" (except for Muddy Monster, which is 16"x7½"). You can order by commenting to this post. Please pick them up at Jackson County Abstract. Cash or check is accepted or by PayPay 62966. 🍎As you're enjoying the Apple Festival this weekend, take a moment to view this temporary installation, on an exterior wall at Brews Brothers Taproom, from Revitalize 62966's Art in the Community committee.

🍎The photo depicts four-year-old Billy Ray Anderson, of Moravian Falls, North Carolina, who was photographed in 1950, by photographer Max Tharpe, of Statesville, North Carolina, thoroughly enjoying a Golden Delicious apple at Davis Orchards, located between Taylorsville and Wilkesboro, NC.

🍎 The photo debuted in the January 1951 edition of American Fruit Growers trade magazine. Billy enlisted in the US Army at age 17, married, and settled in Augusta, GA. Sgt. Billy Ray Anderson was killed in ambush in Vietnam in January 1971 publications.

🍎The photo was used for decades in Apple Festival marketing, beginning in the mid 1950s. An oil painting by Senator Bruce Richmond, based on the photo, is displayed at the Apple Festival office.
