โœจ๏ธ๐ŸŒฒCelebrating One Year of Appalachian Wildlings Forest School!๐ŸŒฒโœจ๏ธ

Our 1-year celebration brought together everything we love most โ€” a delicious potluck, music, hands busy with crafts, and a lantern walk that lit up the earlier darkness that this season brings.

Together, we carried our handmade lanterns into the night, honoring the light we brought into this first year and the light weโ€™ll continue carrying into our second. ๐ŸŒฒ๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ

Thank you to every child, family, volunteer, and friend who made this year unforgettable. Your presence, your involvement, and your love for nature have built something truly special here.

Hereโ€™s to Year Two โ€” may it shine even brighter! โœจ๐ŸŒ™๐ŸŒฟ

Little hands beading, yarn that weaves,
Play-dough numbers, singing ABCs.
Learning forest layers, a walk on the trail,
Wildling hearts shining in our woodland tale.๐ŸŒฒโœจ

๐Ÿ‚ Fruits of fall arenโ€™t just delicious, theyโ€™re teachers.

Here are a few of the lessons they helped us explore this week:

Blindfolded apple dipping โ€” trusting your senses to find an apple in a tote of cool water, then sorting them by color and counting their treasure๐ŸŽ

Crunchy forest snacks โ€” using autumn treats to discover sound words and playful onomatopoei๐Ÿฅœ

Berry color crafting โ€” squishing and stirring fall berries to create natural paints and explore how the land makes its own colors๐Ÿซ

Walnut-rooted dyeing โ€” transforming fabric with the deep, earthy browns of black walnut, carrying forward an old Appalachian tradition๐ŸคŽ

๐ŸŒฟ Cover Falls Trail Workday Success! ๐ŸŒฟ

Our very first Cover Falls Trail Workday was absolutely amazing! Everyone worked hard, and with nothing but hand tools and heart, a visible path now winds its way through the trail corridor.

Weโ€™d like to extend a huge thank you to Mainspring Conservation Trust for protecting this beautiful land and for allowing us to be part of this special project.

Weโ€™re all so excited to see this trail continue to take shape and to help bring public access to the breathtaking Cover Falls!

๐ŸŒฒ Keep an eye out for the next workday. Weโ€™d love to have more hands join us as we continue this incredible community effort together. ๐ŸŒฟ

Down at Darnell Farms, we learned a good harvest doesn't just come from the soil, it comes from the heart. Farmer Nate talked to us about how the love we give to others, the earth, and ourselves is what keeps life growing strong, season after season. And of course, no trip would be complete without the fall tradition of wandering through the pumpkin patch, searching for that one perfect pumpkin to call your own.๐Ÿ‚๐ŸŽƒ๐Ÿ

๐ŸŒฒKinderforest Co-Op's classroom is the forest!๐ŸŒฒ

When the leaves start to change, the forest buzzes with excitement. The animals hurry to gather food and build their cozy homes before winter comes.
At forest school we do the same by playing, learning, and observing the signs of fall that are telling us there are colder days ahead.๐Ÿฟ๐ŸŒฐ๐Ÿ‚๐Ÿ

We gather by the waterโ€™s side,
With nets and jars and eyes open wide.
Skipping stones and learning trees,
Cool wet toes and a warm breeze.

Laughter echoes, wild and freeโ€”
The creek, in the summer, is our best place to be!
